ABSTRACT
All the authors are to use this template for preparing the extended abstract for the Symposium. Authors of abstracts
have to type these in a form suitable for direct reproduction. Please follow the instructions in this template strictly to
ensure uniformity of style throughout the volume. This section of the paper gives a brief explanation of your PhD study
and should not exceed 100 words in Calibri 10pt.
1 Headings (Calibri 12pt bold)
1.1 Sub headings (Calibri 10pt italic, bold)
Use Calibri 10 point size and exactly 14 point line spacing
for all text. Avoid underlining any text. Manuscripts
submitted for review should be prepared in line with
these guidelines. The documents should be well written
and free of spelling and grammatical errors. Authors
should run their documents through a grammar and spell
checker to correct any errors prior to submission.
Formatting of documents is important to ensure
consistent appearance. This document is formatted in
the same manner that your paper should be. The
manuscript should be created in Microsoft Word.
Additional levels of sub-headings
Additional levels of sub-headings are to be in 10 pt italic
and bold. No numbering. For the purposes of clarity
authors are encouraged not to use more than three
levels of subheadings.
Leave one line of space between the end of a section and
the beginning of another heading.
2 Figures and Tables
2.1 General
Figures and tables may be used to better illustrate the
points made or to better present data. All figures and
tables must be embedded in the manuscript near the
first reference to the corresponding figure or table.
Figures and tables should be numbered consecutively as
Table 1: and so forth or Figure 1: and so forth. Use
smaller font (9 pt bold) for tables and figure captions.
Figure 1: Caption of a typical figure.
2.2 Figures
The figures should be centrally placed in the document,
with equal margins on both sides and fit within the
document’s margins. The figure caption should be
centred, numbered and positioned below the figure,
clearly acknowledging the source (see Figure 1).
2.3 Tables
The tables should be editable and centrally placed in the
documents similar to the figures. The table caption
should be centred, numbered and positioned above the
table, clearly acknowledging the source (see Table 1).
Locate tables close to the first reference to them in the
text and number them consecutively. Avoid
abbreviations in column headings.

3 Paper submission
University Press.
Full papers of completed work or papers based on a
review of literature are encouraged for presentation at
the symposium and inclusion in the Proceedings if
accepted. Manuscripts should be submitted no later than
the submission deadline Friday 31 October 2014.
Authors will be notified of acceptance by 7 November
2014. The full paper should not exceed 10 pages
excluding references.
Submit one MS Word file of your manuscript by email to
Dr. James O. B. Rotimi at jrotimi@aut.ac.nz. Alternatively,
you could upload your submission online while
registering for the symposium. Submission in MS Word
allows the editors to remove from the manuscript
author’s name or other revealing details to ensure a
blind review process. If accepted for publication, the
paper should then include the author(s) names and
affiliations as shown on this template.
Each manuscript must be submitted by the presenter as
the corresponding author. The conveners will review
manuscript for its contents and scientific merits. The
review decision will be either "Accepted" or "Rejected".
