Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington at Mount Vernon DATE: Wednesday, June 11, 2014 DEPART: Rosemont College at 7:00 A.M. RETURN: to Rosemont College by 7:00 P.M. COST: $ 60 TCLC members; $90 non-members (Snacks will be served on the bus; lunch available on your own) The presidential library of our first president, newly opened in September 2013, has been described as “a spectacular masterpiece.” Digital archives together with the actual books and manuscripts that once lined the shelves of George Washington encourage and promote the next generation of scholars to reflect and learn from the challenges that faced our fledgling nation. Following a guided tour of the library and a lunch break, we will visit the Mansion in the historic area at Mount Vernon. This iconic residence has been meticulously restored to its 1799 condition and reflects the character, tastes and accomplishments of George Washington. Treasured objects and artifacts depict the social and domestic practices of the time. Later, explore the historic area, the gardens and the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center. Re-board the deluxe motor coach tired, but inspired for the relaxing return trip to Rosemont.
