Scholarship
Deadline for Application is August 31, 2015
To promote awareness of a career path as a construction financial manager/accountant or as one in
service to the construction industry (e.g. Public Accountant, Insurance Representative, Banker) the Heart
of Texas Chapter of CFMA has established a scholarship program. The 2015 CFMA Heart of Texas
Chapter Scholarship is for $1,000. Scholarships will be awarded for the semester beginning in the fall of
2015.
Scholarship selection will be based first on the response to the questionnaire submitted by the qualified
candidate. Additional factors, such as the recommendation of the associated school official, financial
need, past involvement with the construction industry and other qualifications not identified here may
be taken into consideration in making the final decision to award the scholarships.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:


Full time student, as defined by the institution
Pursuing a degree in accounting, finance, business (with a construction emphasis), engineering,
construction management, architecture, or other finance/construction related field
Candidates must attach their application and their responses to the application questions 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
to this form.
Scholarship applications should be sent as (1) pdf document to ah@templecpa.com with "2015 CFMA HOT Chapter

2. A construction company can have many outside vendors and/or business associates, who are
critical to their operation, in which the Controller or Chief Financial Officer within that
construction company may interface regularly. Other than a material supplier, identify one that
you believe would be important to the operation of a construction company and state how their
involvement may impact the success of the construction company.
3. Identify at least one major difference between a general contractor and a subcontractor.
4. Explain how this difference (from question 3 above) might impact the responsibilities of a
Controller or Chief Financial Officer, or their staff, within either the general contractor’s or subcontractor’s office.
5. Why are you interested in a career in the construction industry?
