At today’s meeting we began with a guest speech by a representative of “Teach for America”. Maggie
Harlow gave us a brief introduction and overview of the organization, including the application process,
the duties and responsibilities of the workers, the benefits of joining, and additional questions regarding
“Teach for America”. We have a few upcoming events, including the Juanita Beach clean-up and the
Goodwill Glitter Sale. At Juanita Beach we are to help clean the shrubbery and harmful plants, and replant with new plants. At the Glitter Sale we are to help with set-up and clean-up, as well as with the
sales and restocking of the merchandise. We had an update with PACE, which is doing well so far.
Members who sign up to volunteer must attend if no notification is given before-hand. Regardless, the
officers in charge say the event was successful, and that the kids were very appreciative. We have a few
social events coming up for both officers and members, including the “Iron Chef Potluck”. New ideas for
the “Holiday Toy Drive” developed, including sponsors, drop-off areas and box decorations. Final plans
should be made soon.
