Assembly Action Plan 2011-12 Mission The ASE exists to promote excellence in the teaching and learning of science. Vision The ASE vision is of progressive improvement in the teaching and learning of science and of the increasing influence of the Association on the environment and among stakeholders such that this vision can flourish. ASE believes that individuals – teachers, teacher educators, technicians, advisers and learners – are vital to this improvement and works to support them. A vision for excellence must permeate everything that ASE does – externally with members and stakeholders and internally with staff and volunteers. Activity 1. Providing resources and support for the members Objective To produce a range of “ off the shelf” resources to be used in Region contexts, departments and whole school. Suggesting ideas and supporting eg primary and 11-19 committees in producing resources. Promoting and celebrating Science Raising the profile of ASE with school leaders, SLT , Governors and HoDs Chair Elect to start Assembly to continue .Feb EiS To engage with and inform head teachers, heads of departments and science coordinators of the benefit to their schools of ASE membership, CSciTeach, Registered Scientist and Registered Technician. To produce briefing papers for e.g. HT conferences, PSQM, CSciTeach etc 2 Assembly workshops at 3 local and the national conference. All ASE members, Field Officers, NAIGS( via chair of NAIGS on Assembly) An increase in applications for membership including schools and corporate , CSciTeach etc including all eligible Assembly members Assembly starting with CSciTeach Targets for hits on twitter, U tube, and press coverage to be posted on the web. Further raising the profile of ASE at SLC’s. 3. Influencing national policy To ensure that Assembly views ( as informed by members) inform consultations and representations to policy makers. To ensure that ASE HQ empower members by keeping them informed of current consultations. Eg. Permanent ASE book stands at all SLCs to have a range of books, journals and leaflets. CEO Field Officers to further develop links with SLCs and teaching schools. Active role at annual conference. All. Recall all ‘ 5 for Sydney’ students to become ambassadors for the ASE, see what impact it had. All BIG press release and coverage could form part of celebrations next year . Regular information sharing with the CEO, ASE Executive Director: Website/e mail notifications to support consultations. Professional and Curriculum Innovation and other members of HQ staff as appropriate. To debate and form a view on all issues. 3 Ongoing Input to topical national debate and respond to consultations in a timely manner and are the views of the members. 4. Two way communication with members, committees and regions To ensure that appropriate forms of communication between Assembly and from Assembly to the membership exist. Improvements to ASE forum and Assembly forum to become the single forum focussing on teaching and learning in science education with default setting to show most recent posting first. ASE HQ and all Assembly members Increased use of all available communication methods especially the ASE forum by assembly members leading by example. Improved press coverage especially at the National conference. Exit questionnaire for leaving members Pro-active communication with assembly working group members, standing committees and ASE membership groups.
