When you feel you need to get away from the stress of city life and a common vacation on
the beach won’t do the trick, it’s time to get back to the basics. For many of us,
this means a trip to a remote village, with delicious foods, spectacular scenery and some fun
rides you can’t find anywhere else. For your next holidays, we have rounded up a list
with the 10 most intriguing and fascination rural destinations this year.
7. Austria has been a year-round destination for winter sports, but there are some objectives
that remain undiscovered for many. Described as a place where baroque is expressed
through architecture, music and art, Austria is the place that always has something new.
There are plenty of wineries with tasting room for their visitors, even wine museums for your
viewing pleasure. In Krems you can find centuries-old monasteries, ancient roof tops and
medieval architecture. The castle ruins in Dürnstein are worth seeing if you want to
see where Richard the Lionhearted was locked up. These are just few of the attractions that
wait for you.

6. Florina, West Macedonia, the place “where Greece begins”, is not usually
mentioned in the booklets you receive from your travel agency. Florina remained a small
town for centuries until it bloomed in the 20th century, becoming an active merchant
community and gate for Central Europe. Florina is explored nowadays by tourists for the
beautiful Prespes lakes or the unspoiled mountainous landscape. There is also a museum
where you can see some interesting pieces from the Neolithic, Iron and Bronze ages, Roman
statues and Byzantine art.
5. Known for a long time as the smallest city in the worlds, Durbuy, Belgium, is remote
destination, excellent for kayaking, climbing or hiking. The small enchanting place is perfect
for those searching for leisure, relaxing activities, excellent foods or total isolation. A popular
objective is castle built in the 11th century and rebuilt by this family in the 17th century on the
ruins of the ancient feudal fortification or the Saint Nicholas church, built in the 17th century.

not to be missed. If you, as thousands others, were fascinated by the scenery in Lord of the
Rings, this is the time to live that experience. With around 15,000 kilometers of coastline and
more than 25 marine reserves or captivating traditions, culture and people, the country is suit
for anyone’s tastes. For some unique experiences, New Zealand has volcano regions
on the one side and glaciers on the other.

3. Located on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, Essaouira is very popular among independent
travelers for its beautiful beaches and countless other attractions. The city is the place where
Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley used to unwind. It’s not the rural experience you would
imagine, but the woodwork and other fascinating work, the friendly people and the oriental
food will make you come back again and again.

2. An enchanting little village in Latvia, Kuldiga maintains most of its historic buildings, with
17th - 18th century stone and even wooden buildings. The most popular attraction for tourists
is Europe’s widest waterfall, the “Ventas Rumba”, 249 metres wide.
Another magnet for visitors is the traditional Kuldiga Town Festival, which takes place at the
3rd weekend of July.

Europe. Transilvania is probably the best know region of the country, famous for its
medieval castles and towns, well-known for Dracula, delicious foods and centuries-old
traditions. Located in the north-east, Bukovina is popular for its painted monasteries,
picturesque landscapes and timeless villages. Another popular attraction is the Medieval
Days, a 2-days festival in Sighisoara featuring medieval arts, music and crafts.
