Guide to Powerful Presentations
Student Learning Objectives: After completing these activities students will…
1. Identify strategies to make a presentation engaging and memorable.
2. Plan a presentation that utilizes the strategies they have identified.
Time Required: 15 minutes
Resources: FFA.org-My Journey
Equipment and Supplies Needed:
1. A copy of the “Stand Out Presentations” worksheet for each student.
2. Internet access to play the video in real time or embed it in a PowerPoint ahead of time.
This quick lesson plan would work well as:
1. Part of a public speaking unit.
2. An introduction before assigning a class project/presentation.

Lesson Plan:
1. Introduction: Have students share speeches and presentations they liked and ones they didn’t. Discuss what
elements are common between the memorable speeches and those that were not.

Activity: Show the video Make a Presentation Like Steve Jobs. This video is available on the June 2015 Build

a. Each student needs a copy of the handout “Stand Out Presentations.”
Follow-up: Discuss the strategies outlined in the video, and discuss how they can be applied to small presentations.
