1. Autobiography: an autobiography is an account of a person’s life written by that person.
You will write an autobiography to help your teacher get to know you better.
a. Your autobiography must be a minimum of 2 pages long typed or 4 pages long
hand written.
b. You autobiography should begin with your birth (where were you born? Day?
Time? Etc.) and end in the present.
c. You should include at least 5 important events in your life. Give as much detail
as possible.
d. Make your autobiography interesting- you must include at least 2 similes and 1
metaphor.
e. Use a dictionary to find 5 vocabulary words. Incorporate those 5 words into
your autobiography.
f. Check your work for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors.
g. The included rubric will be used to grade your writing.

resources to complete the worksheets.

You will choose one of the Of Mice and Men OR The Great Gatsby. You will complete one of
the following projects:
 Write an alternate ending to the story.
 Create a poster reviewing important information about the book (ie. Characters,
important quotes, etc)
 Create a PowerPoint presentation.
 Create a graphic novel retelling the story.
 Make a pamphlet about the book that would entice someone to read the book.
 Create a jeopardy game of questions that you create about the story.
 Come up with a creative project of your own.
Some of the projects listed above are vaguer than others. The project that you choose must be
approved by your teacher. You should review with your teacher what information you would
like to present and in what way you would like to present it.

brief outline of what you read. Come to class ready to discuss your outline with your
teacher.
2. Complete the Nonfiction Assignment Sheet on page 100. You may choose any
nonfiction article from the internet, a magazine, or a newspaper to complete this
assignment.
3. Complete the Tensions in a Family activity on page 101. Read the 2 dialogs. Then
write a short description of A and B. Do you believe that the characters are male of
female? What age might they be? What is their relationship to one another?
4. Read The American Dream on page 102. On a separate sheet of paper answer all

5. Read Selling Yourself on page 103. On a separate sheet of paper answer all of the
questions.
6. Read What was Happening Then? On page 104 to learn more about the time in
which the story takes place.
7. While you are reading this novel, complete the character’s dream chart on page 105.
Turn this in once you have finished the play.
8. On pages 106-115 read each sentence. Use context clues to determine what the
meaning of each word is. Then in your own words write the definition of the
underlined word. Check you definitions. Then complete the matching worksheet
that accompanies each word. This assignment will be collected once you have
finished reading the play.
