Part of our tour will be summiting this ancient mountain. What you need to know: Information Letter Imagine yourself high in the Peruvian Andes standing on the edge of ancient civilization. Clouds swirl around you as stand in awe of the Incan fortress city that lay hidden for hundreds of years. The landscape is extreme. Vertical slopes draped in emerald jungle are all around. The scene takes your breath away as you can hardly take it all in. This is Machu Picchu. One of the true wonders of the world, buried deep in the Andes Mountains of Peru, and absolutely filled with awe, mystery, and much to learn about the one, true God. CCBC Peru and the Northwest Science Museum are very excited to announce that we will be hosting a teaching and adventure tour of Machu Picchu Nov. 29thDec. 5th. You are receiving this letter because you are either a future student of CCBC Peru, friend of the Bible College, or a friend of Northwest Science Museum. Would you be interested in joining us on this adventure? On the following pages you will find important information regarding the upcoming trip as well as some important dates. Please visit ccbcperu.com for our description of the trip, Machu Picchu, history, pictures and more. Info: • The trip will take place at the end of the CCBC Peru fall semester: Nov. 29thDec 5th. Graduation is Friday Nov. 27th, and the trip will start the following Monday. Both students and non-students are welcome and invited to come, but there will be a cap on the number of non-students that we can take, and it will be a first come, first serve basis. • Creation Scientist and Executive Director of the Northwest Science Museum, Doug Bennett, will be teaching the last class of our semester, and then will be coleading and teaching the tour. • We will take a tour with Doug of the ancient ruins of Sacsayhuaman in Cusco, visit a Creation Museum in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, spend a full-day in the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu with Doug as our guide, take a group of adventure-seekers to the top of the breath-taking Huayna-Picchu (see picture to right), connect with the local Calvary Chapel, spend a free day of exploration in Cusco, and much more! Cost: • The cost of the round-trip from Boise is $2250 per person. • Price includes: Round-Trip airfare Boise-Lima, 1 night lodging in Lima, RoundTrip airfare Lima-Cusco, 4 nights lodging in Cusco and Machu Picchu, entrance to all areas (such as Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu and Sacsayhuaman, Lima Museums), costs of all tours, all busses, sight-seeing train to Machu Picchu, breakfast, and packed-lunch during tour of ruins. Each person will be free to buy own lunch and dinner, and that is NOT included in the fare. Coordination: • CCBC Peru will be coordinating the trip from Lima. • Northwest Science Museum will be coordinating the Boise-Lima journey. That means that we will need a copy of each person’s passport in order to buy airfare. • DOUG WILL BE VISITING SOME MUSEUMS IN LIMA AND POINTING OUT SOME VERY COOL FACTS REGARDING CREATION ON FRIDAY DEC. 4th. We will Visit the Larco Museum. The museum is housed in an 18thcentury vice-royal building built over a 7th-century pre-Columbian pyramid. It showcases chronological galleries that provide a thorough overview of 4,000 years of Peruvian pre-Columbian history. This museum houses over 35,000 pottery artifacts (see dinosaurs represented on pottery and other artifacts including the famous gold Death Mask with dinosaurs on it!). Also the Museum de Oro or the Gold Museum. This private collection contains a staggering display of Pre-Hispanic gold, Paracas textiles and ceramics; holding some of the most important gold, silver and gilded copper artifacts from a number of Peru’s different Pre-Columbian cultures. Twenty thousand weapons of all times and countries are exhibited in the museum as well (awesome weapons collection along with spectacular displays of gold mask and jewelry, pottery, textiles and other artifacts recovered from tombs throughout Peru).
