BIG BUCK
RULES
1. All contestants must enter the Union Parish Big Buck Contest before the
animal is harvested. A person will be considered entered when the fee of $10.00 is
paid, and the date is recorded on the ticket.
2. A contestant must have a valid Louisiana hunting license, and is required to show
proof of the license when an animal is scored. All animals must be harvested in
accordance with the rules and regulations of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and
Fisheries. Failure to abide by state law and regulations will be grounds for
disqualification from the contest. All contestants must abide by all La. Dept. of Wildlife
hunting regulations. Deer killed on private property in violation of the trespass law will
not be allowed to enter the contest.
3. All animals must be scored by an official Scorer. All animals are to be scored by
designated scores provided in the rules and regulations. The director may choose to
have the deer re-scored if the original score becomes questionable. If the hunter
chooses not to have the animal re-scored, the hunter and the animal will not be allowed
in the contest. (No Exceptions)
4. All contestants must enter their own kill and the antlers must be attached to the body
of a freshly killed whitetail deer or attached to a sufficient portion of the head, neck, and
cape of a freshly killed whitetail deer. No deer will be eligible for the contest if brought in
with just the skull and antlers. All animals must be tagged when brought to the contest.
(No Exceptions)
5. All animals to be entered into the Union Parish Chamber of Commerce Big BUCK
Contest must be from the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana. No animals that are
brought into the Parish or State, regardless of age or sex will be allowed into the
contest. Failure to abide by these rules will be grounds for disqualification.
6. Animals that are brought in Velvet to the contest are subject to a 3% deduction in
order to be eligible to be entered into the contest.
7. The winner of the contest is requested to have his/her animal on display at the
awards banquet in order to claim their prizes. No prizes will be mailed until the shipping
charges have been paid in full in advance. The Union Parish Chamber of Commerce
winner may also be asked to submit a polygraph test to verify their harvest. The director
will choose the time and place of the test should one be requested.
8. All animals must be scored within 24 hours after the harvest by a qualified scorer or
make arrangements for a later score by calling 817-307-4732.
9. Animals that are considered “Tame”, “Domesticated” or “Pet” are not allowed in the
contest. All animals that were ever kept inside a pen for breeding purposes or any other
reason are considered tame and will not be allowed in the contest. The official scorer will
check the animal for any type of markings. Should these types of markings be found
the animal will not be allowed in the contest. If the contest director finds that the
animal is not free ranging, he has the right to hold the animal out of the contest until an
intense investigation is done. If the director finds that the animal was not free-ranging
the animal and the hunter will be disqualified from the contest

10. When an animal comes into the contest headquarters to be scored or weighed all
information provided by the hunter must be correct. If the information provided is not
correct, that will be grounds for disqualification.
11. The contest director has the right at any time during the contest to re-measure any
animal and reverse the winner of the category.
12. Scoring hours are from 8am to 5pm week days, and from 8am to 12:00pm on

13. Gross Non-Typical scores are determined by what is considered to be the Gross NonTypical score by the Boone & Crockett measuring system. Gross Typical scores are
determined by what is considered to be the Typical score by the Boone & Crockett
measuring system.
14. Low Fence Division- Is for animals that are harvested from land of any size that has
fences that are no taller than 5 feet that could be captive to the animal. If the property
is surrounded by an escape-proof fence on any side there must be at least 5000 feet of
no fence at all or a fence that is 5 feet or shorter.
15. High Fence Area- Is for animals that are harvested from land that is surrounded by
an escape-proof fence. Escape-proof fence is any fence that is taller than 5 foot. No
animals may be registered if harvested from a High Fence Area.
16. Youth Division- Can only be won by a youth that is 16 years or younger.
17. Out-of-State Resident- Is for hunters that come to the state of Louisiana to hunt.
Out of state hunters are permitted to enter contest provided they meet all state laws
and regulations including an out-of-state license.
