NEWSLETTER
27th November 2015
Thank you all very much for the warm welcome that I’ve received during the course of my first
week at school. I’m delighted to have been appointed as Interim Headteacher and have
thoroughly enjoyed working with the staff team, in addition to meeting many of you and your
children. I’m extremely impressed by the children’s excellent behaviour and good manners and
it’s lovely to see their positive work ethic and obvious pride in their school. If I haven’t yet
managed to greet you on the playground either before or after school, I look forward to doing so
shortly, or meeting you at one of our forthcoming Christmas events. Please don’t hesitate to contact me via the
Admin Office team should you have any issues that you’d like to discuss.
Science in Year 1
Year 1 have been very busy over the last 2 weeks being scientists!
On Friday we had a great time at Snakes and Ladders. We explored the world around us by investigating in the
science discovery area. We looked at thermal images, explored how they use their senses and solved some tricky
problems! At the science show we had an opportunity to learn more about our bodies. We learnt how food is
digested and as a bonus, even made snot!
On Wednesday afternoon the parents were invited in to learn more
about animals. We were very lucky to have a visit from the Suffolk
Wildlife Trust, who brought in skulls for us to look. The Wildlife Trust
staff showed us how to work out which skull belonged to which
animal, using clues such as their eye position and the type of teeth
the animal had.
Indoor Athletics Event at Ormiston
On Tuesday 24th November, 20 year 6 pupils competed in an indoor athletics event at
OSA. They had a fantastic afternoon, finishing 4th overall. Tyler Walton and Holly
Seaman each received a medal for their attitude and efforts. Congratulations to
everyone involved.
Ormiston Theatre Group put on a Show
Years 1 and 2 were delighted by a visit from Ormiston Sudbury Academy drama students who performed two plays
for them. The first was a “Cinderella” type story
called “Ashpital” and the second was about a golden
lion. The students encouraged our children to join in
with the show and they all thoroughly enjoyed the
afternoon.
Exciting News from Makaton Club
We are delighted to have been invited to take part in the Makaton
Charity online Advent Calendar this year. There is a bit of Makaton magic
behind each door of the calendar, involving a whole range of people
sharing Makaton signs. Our contribution has been made by our Makaton club who are
demonstrating the sign for “Christmas Tree”. The calendar will be available to view online from
1st December at advent.makaton.org.

Relief MDA Needed
We are looking for a relief Midday Assistant for our lunchtime sessions. If you are interested in the position, please
ask at the school office for an application form.
Grandparents Lunch
Last Friday Year 5 invited their Grandparents to join them for a school dinner. Everyone seemed to enjoy their lunch
and we would like to thank all the Grandparents who took part. As the lunch was such a success, we plan to repeat
this for other year groups.
Poppy Appeal
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this year’s Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. We sold all the
poppies that we had and raised £112.15. The representative from the British Legion was thrilled with this
total and provided lovely poppy pin badges for the five children who helped to sell the poppies.
Wanted – Scrap Paper!
Our art department has asked for any large bits of scrap paper you may have for projects in school. We are looking
for part rolls of wallpaper, coloured or patterned paper such as wrapping paper and any other paper that could be
used for art and craft activities. Any donations would be very gratefully received.
