T.J. Lynch Joe Korneta Benton Frayne Emergency Action Plan for Maxwell Field I. Care for the conscious athlete A. Head Coach- First out for on field assessment. Helps in establishing further course of action. Assists in removing the injured athlete from the playing field with ATC (unless emergency personnel are required) accompanies athlete to hospital(if necessary) B. Assistant coach/s- Contacts emergency personnel if necessary, notifies groundskeepers of any gates, rooms, etc. that need to be unlocked. Contacts campus security. Keeps team off the field until the injured player has been removed. Contacts parents if necessary. C. ATC’s- Out for on field assessment with the head coach. Checks vitals, decides if neck or spine injury can be ruled out, makes decision on if emergency personnel need to be called. Assists in removing the injured athlete from the playing field with Head coach (unless emergency personnel are required) D. Players- Make injury known to coaches or officials without touching athlete. Take a knee and get off of the field if told. When asked, assist in moving the injured athlete. E. Officials- Make sure play is stopped as soon as possible so care for the athlete can begin. Alert coaches, medical staff of injury if it goes unnoticed. Alert coach if player seems to be limping or possibly hurt in any other way. F. EMT’s(if required)- Reassess injury, check vitals. In charge of moving athlete off of field. Apply any necessary equipment or removing G. Groundskeepers- Have keys to all gates, any possible equipment rooms, etc. H. Team Physician(if present)- Final say in all decisions for the injured athlete. II. Care for unconscious athlete A. Head coach- Checks heart rate, other vitals. Accompanies athlete to hospital. B. Assistant coach’s- Contacts emergency personnel, notifies groundskeepers of any gates, rooms, etc. that need be unlocked. Contacts campus security. Keeps team off the field until the injured player has been removed. C. ATC- Out with coach for vitals. Performs CPR if needed until the EMT’s arrive. Stabilizes head and neck. D. Players- Alert coaches, officials or medical staff, do not touch the athlete. E. Officials- alert coaches, medical staff, keeps space for the athlete. Stop play as soon as possible so care can begin. F. EMT’s- Transport the athlete. Direct ATC or Head coach if their help is required. apply any necessary equipment. G. Groundskeepers- stay close, open all emergency gates for emergency routes H. Team physician- Supervise the ATC, assist EMT’s with anything they request. Relay all known information about the injury to the EMT’s. III. Required Equipment on site. A. Exit out onto Mankato and go east. 2. Take a left onto Sarnia. 3. Turn right onto Main St. 4. Enter through the Parking lot into the South gate. B. To Hospital 1. Exit through the south gate and go right onto Main St. 2. Turn left onto Sarnia St 3. Turn Right onto Mankato 4. Entrance to hospital on your right hand side IX. Individual to accompany patient to hospital A. Head Coach 1. Parents should be directed to follow in their own car 2. If Head Coach cannot, an assistant coach should go. X.
