Research Associate
University of Glasgow, £32,267 - £36,298 per annum
The Universities of Glasgow and Warwick are seeking to appoint two
postdoctoral Researchers in philosophy, as part of a project entitled Rethinking
the Senses: Uniting the Philosophy and Neuroscience of Perception.
The project is a collaboration between Centre for the Study of the Senses
(Institute of Philosophy, School of Advanced Study in London) and the
Universities of Oxford, Glasgow and Warwick. The two philosophy posts will
initially be based one in Glasgow and one in Warwick, but as the project
progresses it is expected that you will move to spend 12 months in another
institution and gain experience with some of the other investigators.
The project aims, through a range of research activities, including seminars,
workshops, conferences, and experimental work, involving a network of research
partners in philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience to integrate philosophical
and scientific perspectives in the study of multisensory perception. It also aims to
interact with a variety of actors in the arts, industry, medical and education
sectors. Key questions include the need to provide a better taxonomy of
multisensory interactions, capable of hosting the variety of results and cases
across modalities, to understand the role of attention and action in these
interactions and their resulting conscious manifestations, and to understand the
impact of specific perceptual and cognitive deficits in multisensory interactions.
You must have a strong background in philosophy of mind and have or be
prepared to acquire, with the guidance of the investigators, the skills necessary
to conduct empirical work in support of the project’s research objectives
There are two additional fellowships (in Experimental Psychology or Cognitive
Neuroscience) associated with the project. Details of these positions are
available
