1. Platonic Friendship – friendship with a member of the opposite gender where there is
affection, but the two people are not considered to be a couple
2. Clique – a small circle of friends, usually with similar backgrounds or tastes, who exclude
people viewed as outsiders
3. Peer pressure – the influence that people your age may have on you
4. Harassment – persistently annoying others
5. Manipulation – an indirect, dishonest way to control or influence other people
6. Intimacy – a closeness between two people that develops over time
7. Infatuation – exaggerated feelings of passion
8. STD’s – infectious diseases spread from person to person through sexual contact
9. Conflict – any disagreement, struggle, or fight
10. Interpersonal conflicts – conflicts between people or groups of people
11. Escalate – to become more serious
12. Negotiation – the use of communication and, in many cases, compromise to settle a
disagreement
13. Mediation – bringing in a mutual third party to help others resolve their conflicts
peacefully
14. Confidentiality – respecting the privacy of both parties and keeping details secret
15. Peer mediation – a process in which specially trained students help other students
resolve conflicts peacefully
16. Violence – the threatened or actual use of physical force or power to harm another
person or to damage property
17. Assault – an unlawful physical attack or threat of an attack
18. Random violence – violence committed for no particular reason
19. Sexual violence – any form of unwelcome sexual contact directed at an individual
20. Sexual assault – any intentional sexual attack against another person
21. Physical abuse – a pattern of intentionally causing bodily harm or injury to another
person
22. Emotional abuse – a pattern of attacking another person’s emotional development and
sense of worth
23. Verbal abuse – the use of words to mistreat or injure another person

25. Stalking – repeatedly following, harassing, or threatening an individual
26. Date rape – one person in a dating relationship forces the other person to take part in
sexual intercourse
