NB – this role will involve early mornings and weekend cover
26 days (pro rata) plus statutory and bank holidays (1 Additional
day after each year of service, up to a maximum of 31days).
DHI and the Royal United Hospital, Bath,
the hours of the role will be split between both locations (or any
other location your Employer may reasonably specify).
Contributory pension scheme (employer’s contribution 7% to a
minimum 3% contribution from employee).

Principle Purpose of the Job
The post holder will be part of a multi disciplinary team providing 7 day per week
alcohol support cover at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. This is a joint venture with
AWP’s Specialist Drug and Alcohol Service.
The aim of the role is to provide alcohol interventions and facilitate access to
treatment services which lead to a reduction in acute hospital admissions and
improve quality of care for those with alcohol needs at the Royal United Hospital.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Duties
1. Work with the Alcohol Liaison nurse and colleagues at the RUH to identify and
target individuals with alcohol support needs, particular those who repeatedly
present to hospital.
2. Use AUDIT to screen and assess alcohol use, along with delivering brief
interventions and advice (IBA), in line with NICE guidelines
3. Support the Alcohol liaison nurses to follow up cases who are admitted out of
hours, making contact by phone to offer IBA and access to treatment if
appropriate. Also to signpost and refer those who live outside of B&NES into
their local treatment service

4. Act as a ‘bridge’ from the RUH supporting individuals into mainstream alcohol
services and treatment
5. Provide alcohol support and interventions to individuals who are patients at the
RUH. This will include delivering one to one sessions with individuals’ using
evidence based techniques such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and
Motivational Interviewing and using delivery tools, particularly ITEP/BTEI
6. Deliver groups which are mapped to different stages of the Recovery journey
(Strang’s approach)
7. Work closely with SDAS detox team and Burlington Street to support to support
access to the community alcohol detox pathway
8. Regularly review (at least every 6 weeks) Recovery
Assessments/management plans and complete TOPs

9. Work closely with the Complex Service to ensure that individuals accessing
clinical services are also supported and encouraged to engage with
Psychosocial interventions
10. Develop and maximise service users’ personal strengths, social networks and
recovery capital (social, physical, human and cultural) throughout their
recovery.
11. Support service users to maintain regular health checks, including BBV and
tuberculosis screening.
12. To support systems and structures that are responsive to the needs of
individuals with different levels of risk, complexity and strengths.
13. To record all documentation and case-notes to a high standard and within
required time frames.
14. To fully inform service users about their recovery/treatment options, involve
them in decisions and consent, and encourage them to take opportunities to
achieve a sustained recovery.
15. To work collaboratively and proactively with other members of staff, volunteers
and mentors to ensure that services are fully coordinated and are working
collectively towards the achievement of recovery goals and positive outcomes
for each individual client.
16. Work proactively to re-engage any individuals at risk of disengagement
17. To work collaboratively, creatively and flexibly, to empower, challenge and
change service users.
18. To work flexibly to provide adequate cover for all aspects of the service,
ensuring there is 7 days per week cover at the RUH.

19. To work alongside and provide support and supervision to volunteers as
required.
20. To be responsible for performance management at an individual level through:
self-management; delivery of goals and tasks set; delivery of contractual
requirements, targets and outcomes; and reporting progress.
21. To maintain up to date knowledge of evidence based best practice related to
the role
22. To actively engage in opportunities for learning and development at an
individual and team level.
23. To comply with operational management systems of supervision, objectives,
appraisal and induction.
24. To contribute to the continuous improvement of quality and performance of the
Alcohol Liaison Service within the wider B&NES treatment partnership.
25. Any other duties in line with the above as required by the Team
Leader/Deputy/Service Manager
Monitoring and Administration
1. To comply with data collection procedures and reporting to ensure effective
recording of performance monitoring, outcomes and service user information.
2. To carry out all necessary administration in relation to casework task including
monitoring, and participate in DHI service evaluation audits.
3. Prepare and present clear verbal / written reports as required.

Hospital Liaison Support Worker
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential:
Experience of working within the area of substance misuse, in particular alcohol
treatment
Experience of managing a client caseload, care planning, delivering evidence based
psychosocial interventions and providing group work
Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders to meet the needs of
service users
An understanding of national treatment targets and the ability to work within a target
driven environment and meet them
Knowledge and commitment to Adult and Child Safeguarding principles and
procedures
Experience of autonomous working and ability to work on own initiative as well as
part of a multi-disciplinary team
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Excellent level of IT literacy in Word, Excel and databases
Desirable
Professional Qualification in health or/and social care
