UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH MEDICAL CENTER Informatics Fellowship Description: Pathology Informatics focuses on the management and analysis of clinical and research pathology data using modern computing, communications and digital imaging techniques. The Division of Pathology Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) trains pathologists to become leaders in the development and application of informatics in academic, industry and/or community practice settings. We offer two (each 1-year duration) fellowship positions at UPMC. Our fellowships are designed for highly motivated individuals interested in becoming pioneers in the field of pathology and informatics. The fellowship has two tracks, one aimed mainly at Pathology Informatics and the other to provide fellows with exposure to more General Clinical (Enterprise) Informatics. These fellowships are also integrated with the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh which provides the fellow with exposure to the full spectrum of bioinformatics. Requirements: Trainees may have clinical backgrounds in Pathology (three years of anatomic or clinical pathology, or four years of combined AP/CP training), equivalent training in another clinical specialty, or graduate training in biomedical science. Some experience in clinical or research computing applications or development is desirable but not required. Types and Numbers of Appointments: The program supports two pathology informatics trainees per year. Each fellowship is of 1 year duration. Stipends: Commensurate with level of training. Staff: Liron Pantanowitz, Fellowship Director; Rasu B. Shrestha, Fellowship Co-Director; and Anil V. Parwani; Jeff Fine; Jon Ho; and Michael Becich among others.
