Shawn Metzner, Firefighter for the Town of Menasha – Shawn began his career in the Fire Services in 1991 while serving in the US Navy. After completing his military service, Shawn returned to Wisconsin to begin his career in security and assisted in establishing a K-9 Search & Rescue Team training German Shepherds to find live and cadaver recovery. Shawn is certified in Firefighter II, Fire Investigator, Fires Service Instructor, Confined Space Rescue Technician, Trench Rescue Technician, Structural Collapse Rescue and Swift Water Rescue. From 2002 to 2007 he was the Chief Operations Officer for Wisconsin Technical Rescue Operations Team, a tristate technical rescue team. Shawn is also an NFPA certified Hazardous Materials Technician, WMD Operations certified, Nuclear/Radiological Operations certified and has completed the Texas Engineering Extension Service EMS Operation and Planning for WMD events. He has taught K-9 Decontamination to several County and Regional Hazardous Materials Team. Larry Jozwik, CEO Graphtec Educational Consulting - Attained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami, Florida with a major in Marine Biology. He received his Master’s Degree in Professional Education from the University of Wisconsin and taught science for 33 years. After his retirement from teaching in 2006, he was appointed Director of Professional Education and Leadership for the Keystone Center in Keystone, CO. He is presently President and CEO of Graphtec Educational Consulting and Director of The Center for Developing Excellence STEM Academy for SE Wisconsin. Larry is a recognized documentarian who has filmed in Africa and the Dominican Republic and has worked with local students on numerous national award winning short films. Recently, his interest has been focused on global freshwater sustainability issues. Dr. Darlene Konkle, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM – A Veterinary Emergency Program Manager at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. She received her veterinary degree from the University-Madison in 1993. After a year of mixed animal practice in Montana, she returned to the University of Wisconsin to complete a masters and residency in large animal internal medicine in 1997. Dr. Konkle has worked as a clinical instructor at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and in private equine practice in Kentucky and Wisconsin before joining the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection in 2005. As veterinary emergency program manager, Dr. Konkle coordinates emergency response planning for foreign and emerging diseases of livestock and poultry. She works with government agencies as well as industry groups to enhance preparedness and response for animal health as well as with state and local agencies to help develop plans for pets and livestock affected by disasters. Chris Cook, RN, Paramedic, TEMS Officer - Attended nursing school at Waukesha County Technical College and EMT-Paramedic training concurrently through the US Army National Guard. After the conclusion of his Army commitment Chris joined the Air Force Reserve as a Security Forces Sergeant to continue his military career while working in Healthcare as an Emergency Room Nurse. After working in Las Vegas, Nevada and Champaign, Illinois, Chris returned to Wisconsin and worked as the EMS Coordinator for Walworth County, Wisconsin. This allowed Chris to develop a relationship with the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department where he currently works as a Tactical Medic for their SWAT team. In 2003, Chris re-joined the Army National Guard and was deployed to Iraq as a medic in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dan Nelson, Officer City of Racine Police Department - Has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration and was in Adult Corrections with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections and the Racine County Sheriff’s Department. He spent 15 years as a police officer with 9 of those years as the CIT (Crisis Intervention Officer) leaving to become the Assistant Director Security/Customer Service at the John Hancock Center in Chicago, Illinois. Also he was the Deputy Superintendent-Racine County Juvenile Detention Center and spent 6 years in the Army Reserve/Air National Guard.
