The infrastructure for a networking system that not only meets today’s minimum requirements but tomorrows needs now without the upgrade costs and added labor in the future. Providing a secure and efficient network in today’s fast pass environment to not only meet your student’s needs, but your professor’s and employee’s requirements to perform their required tasks efficiently and on time without network issues. 2|Page Anoka Tech Network Report Tower Success ASSUMPTIONS Expected products and/or services provided by Anoka Tech and not required by Tower Success. Required Servers, Client Computers and printers Data Center that is adequately powered with a secondary system such as a generator and/or battery backup Extra storage areas for Intermediate Distribution Facilities (IDF) Required personal that are adequately trained to maintain and repair the network after initial installation and configuration Main and backup Internet access with required bandwidth Network access to any other part of the facility whether attached directly or off site Access and communication liaison to the construction company as required for any conflicts that may arise NETWORK TYPE The designed network type is a hybrid design using the best practice methods that provide the best options for each requirement that Anoka Technical College has. Student Services Area: Rooms 109 to 119 and 120 in the Business Administration Department will have four port lan drop for two walls Room 117A will have four port lan drop on three walls Room 117 will have six port lan drop with two on each pillar in the center area of the room Security Office: Room 122 will have a four port lan drop on one wall Financial Aid Office Area: Rooms 103 to 106 will have four port lan drop on three walls Room 106A will have four port lan drop on two walls Reception Desk and Conference Room: The Reception Desk will have four port lan drop on each side of the desk (two total) The Conference Room will four port lan drop on two walls A wireless access point will be installed in the wall between the Conference Room and Reception Desk to cover the main floor Video Conferencing Room (room 102): A small data rack to house a dedicated switch The front of the room will have patch cables connected to the switch directly The back wall will have a six port connection installed with one port for video to the TV mounted on that wall Side walls will have a four port connections (two walls) One microphone will be celling mounted in the center of the room All other equipment will be installed on the front wall 4|Page Anoka Tech Network Report Tower Success Fig 1.2 Auditorium Red = Data Center and Cable Trunk or Fiber Optic Green = Wireless Access Point Blue = Switches and CAT 6 Cable In Fig 1.2 is the upper floor auditorium space that requires floor locations for network access. There will be four port connections located at each of the two podium locations Two wireless access points will be mounted on the ceiling above the floor ports 5|Page Anoka Tech Network Report Tower Success TOWER SUCCESS WILL PROVIDE We have provided multiple options for implementation which mainly includes differences in equipment and cabling to ensure we will provide a solution that will not only meet your network requirements but Anoka Technical College’s budget. Below we have listed options where applicable with comparisons of each items impact on the network as a whole sorted by category. Cabling Cable from the data center to each switch, wireless access point and patch panel: Option 1 Option 2 Option 3 CAT 6a twisted Pair Fiber optic Mix of each type Cabling from switch and patch panels to each land drop: Option 1 CAT 6 Twisted Pair Cabling comparison: CAT 6 1000BASE-T (Gigabit Ethernet) Maximum length 330ft Sold in bulk of 1,000ft CAT 6a 10GBASE-T (10-Gigabit Ethernet) Maximum length 330ft Sold in bulk of 1,000ft Option 2 CAT 5e Twisted pair Fiber optic 40-Gigabit Ethernet 100-Gigabit Ethernet Maximum length 328ft Sold in bulk In order to provide adequate bandwidth at peak times when the auditorium is full and all offices are being utilized a fiber optic cabling of at least 40gb Ethernet is highly recommended Video Conference Room at a minimum. While a CAT 6a will provide enough bandwidth during nonpeak times will prove to slow the network down when peak times do occur. Utilizing CAT 6a will reduce the future usefulness of the network and will eventually require an upgrade to fiber optic. By choosing fiber optic now will provide maximum benefits now and in the future with a more stable and reliable network that will continue to handle expansion and peak times without any slowdowns thus reducing waiting, frustration and expense later. CAT 6 and CAT 6a will be utilized for all the LAN drops from either directly from a switch of patch panel. This will provide a 10/100 data speed to each component connected. 6|Page Anoka Tech Network Report Tower Success Wireless Access Wireless Controllers and Access Points: Cisco 2112 WLAN Controller Central Location for setup and configure Failover in case one unit goes down Provides all security protocols CISCO Aironet 1600 Wireless Access Point Up to 300Mbps data rate 802.11a/b/g/n standards Mesh style redundancy Wireless controllers will be at the four front of your wireless access points. The chosen Cisco 2112 series controllers provide redundancy with automatic fail over in case one controller goes off line. The ability to add up to 12 access points. Routers Cisco 4451-X Router Uses modules to upgrade components Can be used with Fiber Optics and CAT 6 Added security for WAN’s and LAN’s Cisco 4451-X Router Uses modules to upgrade components Can be used with Fiber Optics and CAT 6 Less features but budget friendly Routers are the core of the system to keep each part of the network running smoothly. Many times a router is the first line of defense against internet attacks along with ensuring proper data flow to and from all aspects of your network and ISP. Switches Cisco Catalyst 3560V2-48TS Layer 3 access Designed to work with the Cisco Products With patch panels no need for upgrade Netgear GS748TP 48-port Fiber Connections Less expensive, use more for back ups With patch panels no need for upgrade Server Racks Tripp Lite SR42UBDP 42U SmartRack Secure Large with expansion room Helps cable management Norco W-609 9U Wallmount Mini Rack Secure Small form factor Provides clean and cool storage The Data Center’s server racks will not only house Anoka Technical College’s servers, but switches, wireless controllers and power supplies in a safe and secure manner while keeping the units and wiring manageable. The other two small server racks are to house the three switches to ensure they are also secure, properly cooled and manageable. 7|Page Anoka Tech Network Report Tower Success LAN Drop Materials Wall Plates Keep wires hidden and safe CAT 6 and 6a Jacks Enable connections to the network LAN drop materials are required to establish wall connections similar to a phone jack or electrical plug. Utilizing blue color jacks for computer connections and red for printer connections.
