Tender for Review and Development of Primary Education Provision, Creswell Heritage Trust General Requirements Tenders are invited for the review and development of primary education activities at Creswell Crags on behalf of Creswell Heritage Trust. Background Creswell Heritage Trust is an independent charity that manages the Ice Age site of Creswell Crags, a limestone gorge and cave site. Within the caves archaeologists have excavated evidence of Neanderthal and modern human occupation dating to the last Ice Age. The remains also include Ice Age fauna and include mammoth, hyena, cave lion and reindeer. The site also boasts Britain’s only Ice Age rock art in Church Hole Cave and is on the UK tentative list for World Heritage Status. The Trust has an educational remit and delivers a vibrant and extremely successful primary education programme which includes costumed interpretation, outdoor survival skills sessions, walks, and indoor archaeology and earth science activities. Creswell Heritage Trust Mission Statement: The Trust will become a Centre of Excellence as a lifelong learning and interpretative resource for the archaeology and environment of the Quaternary period, will provide a high quality, improving and entertaining interpretative, educational, and recreational visitor resource within the Creswell Crags Heritage Area and will be a focus for landscape identity and sense of place amongst the communities of the Heritage Area. Specification The Trust is looking for an experienced consultant/team with a background in heritage and/or education to review the provision of primary education services at Creswell Crags Visitor Centre and Museum. Working independently but with input from staff and partners, the consultant will be responsible for reviewing the current formal education offer to schools, proposing developments that will enhance the offer, and pilot testing these proposals. The review should test the effectiveness of existing provision against educational best practice, and make reference to the effective use of the site and collections. Proposals should have outcomes which are sustainable, relevant and stimulating, should address key curriculum areas and meet the needs of teaching staff. We expect consultants to spend 7-8 days on this project. Key Tasks: Liaising with staff, stakeholders and education professionals to review the existing Primary education provision at Creswell Crags, suggesting improvements and developments in line with best practice in the sector and requirements of teachers. Identify the scope for resource development. Reporting directly to the Director providing written and electronic reports for monitoring. Review the existing physical resources available for schools, and devise a schools pack that includes risk assessments, guidance notes for deliverers and teaching staff and pre and postvisit activities. To improve the quality, reputation and perceived value of primary education products. Using previous learning experiences to create a more holistic approach to the education programme at Creswell Crags. To increase income and margins on education provision.
