What is engineering?
~ Engineering
is using math and science to solve practical problems. It requires
creativity, persistence, and a desire for improvement.
What is ABET, INC.?
~ ABET, INC. is the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in
applied science, computing, engineering, and technology. Currently, they
accredit around 2,800 programs at more than 600 colleges and universities.
Engineering Disciplines
~Currently, the U.S. government keeps statistics on 17 engineering disciplines.
Each discipline includes accreditation from ABET. Within each discipline there
are many sub-fields or specializations available. The 17 disciplines are:

• Marine and Ocean

outlined by the ABET. Once you become an expert, you will turn in an outline of the discipline
(see below), and briefly explain to the class what the discipline focuses and what a person in
that field may do.
