FULL-TIME and INTERNSHIP PLACEMENT
Key Dates for Accounting Students
AUGUST


Register on MySpartanCareer. If already registered, make sure your resume is up-to-date.
Begin checking for opportunities on MySpartanCareer.
o Interview sign up occurs 28 days prior to the scheduled interview date so although
interviews may not start until later in September, sign up begins NOW.
o Check MySpartanCareer often. Listings and interview opportunities are added daily.
SEPTEMBER




Attend The Accounting and Information Systems Career Exchange (formerly known as Meet the
Firms), a career fair for students and employers specifically interested in accounting. Details can
be found on MySpartanCareer. (2015 date: September 16th)
Continue submitting your resume for postings on MySpartanCareer.
Interviewing at the Lear Center begins.
National and regional accounting firm interviews for full-time and spring and summer semester
internships typically occur mid-September to mid-October.
OCTOBER



Accounting firm full-time/spring/summer internship interviews continue.
Attend Career Gallery/Business Exchange, a career fair for ALL business majors- usually early
October ( 2015 date: October 1st).
Keep checking MySpartanCareer regularly for job postings and campus interview opportunities.
NOVEMBER - MAY




Keep checking MySpartanCareer regularly for job postings and campus interview opportunities.
Explore job leads by networking with family, friends, neighbors etc. Call and send your resume to
employers in the geographic area in which you are interested in working. Explore online job
posting sites.
Participate in other career fairs (e.g. Diversity Career Fair in January, Summer Employment Fair in
February). See details and dates on MySpartanCareer.
Public firms typically interview for summer leadership conferences in spring semester.
THROUGHOUT THE YEAR






Participate in workshops and mock interviews to refine your job search skills. Visit the Lear Center
in 21 Eppley or at http://careernetwork.msu.edu/ for information about programs and services.
If having difficulty using MySpartanCareer, get help from the expert staff in the Lear Center.
Make sure you are subscribed to the Accounting Listserv (instructions on back).
Network with potential employers through student organization events especially the Accounting
Student Association, Beta Alpha Psi and the National Association of Black Accountants.
