Career Planning Process
Time Limit: 45 minutes
Audience: Freshman & Sophomores
Students will become familiar with the career planning process and the services offered by Career Services.
Finding Internships: Practice For the Real World
Time Limit: 50 minutes
Audience: Sophomores & Juniors
How do you get a job without experience? How do you get experience without a job? Students will learn about
the internship resources available in Career Services and how they can help them find internships related to
their majors and career goals. Participants will gain access to the four electronic internship databases, view
books and material from our internship files.
Cover Letters that Get Attention
Time Limit: 45 minutes
Audience: All classes
Students will learn the basics of writing an effective cover letter, as well as, explore the various styles of
business letters and thank you notes.
Job Search Strategies: Tips and Tools
Time Limit: 50 minutes
Audience: All classes
Students will learn how to strategically search for employment opportunities via traditional and nontraditional ways. Topics will include using the Internet, job hotlines, directories, and the hidden job market.
Interviewing: What the Employer Really Wants to Know!
Time Limit: 50 minutes
Audience: All classes
You’ve sent your resume and got called for an interview. Great! Now, how do you demonstrate that the
employer should choose you? Students will learn how to effectively communicate during an interview in an
effort to produce a positive outcome. They will become familiar with the different types of interviews, the
major mistakes made in interviews and how to avoid them.
Resume Writing with Results
Time Limit: 50 minutes
Audience: All classes
In this workshop, students will learn the difference between those resumes that get noticed and those that don’t.
It is not rocket science, so why do so many resumes end up in the “No Interview” pile? Students will learn the
most important steps for writing a winning resume.
GT Job Connection: McDaniel’s Resource for Jobs and Internships
Time Limit: 50 minutes
Audience: All classes
Employers list positions for McDaniel students everyday. In this workshop, students will learn how to use
GTJC to create an account, search for jobs that fit their schedule, and post their resume. Students wanting to
post their resume must save their resume on a disk in MS Word format.

Second Interviews
Time Limit: 45 minutes
Audience: All classes
Students will become familiar with the dynamics of second interviews. Participants will learn what to expect,
how to prepare, what to wear and how to follow-up the second interview.
Evaluating and Negotiating Job Offers
Time Limit: 45 minutes
Audience: All classes
Students will become familiar with the process of negotiating offers, accepting and declining offers,
understanding benefit packages, and making employment decisions.
Networking 911
Time Limit: 50 minutes
Audience: All classes
Students will learn the fundamentals of professional networking.
Call to Serve: Working for the Federal Government
Time Limit: 90 minutes
Audience: All classes
The Federal Government may be the employer of choice in the current labor market. In this workshop,
students will receive information about cooperative education, internship and job opportunities available in
Federal Agencies throughout the country. Students will also be introduced to the recently revised selection
and application process.
What Not to Do: Avoiding Office Mistakes
Time Limit: 60 minutes
Audience: All classes
Don’t blow it once you get in the door! Learn how to handle different office situations with ease. Get tips and
insights on how to successfully make it through your 1st year on the job. (Guest Speaker)
