Website Newsletter – December 2013 Welcome to all viewers of our Family History Website. We welcome the researchers that continue to come to our website, as well as new researchers who have newly discovered our resources. We hope that all researchers will continue to enjoy reading the relevant newsletters, finding out about Reunions that are planned by family history planners everywhere, and searching for lost family members of your lineage that may be in our databases. To make your experience more enjoyable, we have added a new choice in the website banner: Churches. In this dropdown menu, you will notice we have two different choices of either Church History or Church Cemeteries. We are working on both areas to make the content enjoyable to the researcher. Twitter: We are now sending out Tweets concerning different occurrences on our website. You can follow us at OnlineFamilyNetwork@ofnorg . Don’t want to wait for the monthly Site Newsletter to see what great things have been happening on our website for the past month, become a follower at twitter.com and read of these events as the Tweets occur. FAMILY HISTORY: Under “Family History”, you will find the most recent Announcements, Newsletters, Chronicles, Obituaries or Media Gallery information on the “Surnames” you are interested in. To view this information, click on the starting letter of the surname you are interested in and then select the segment you wish to view. For the November 2013 period, there were no new “Family Newsletters”. However, we do expect that the December 2013 period will involve quite a few new “Family Newsletters” and perhaps at least one “Letter From the Editor” and other activities. FAMILY NEWSLETTERS: Again, for the November 2013 period, there were no new “Family Newsletters”. However, we do expect that the December 2013 period will involve quite a few new “Family Newsletters” and perhaps at least one “Letter From the Editor” and other activities. To read these newsletters on the website, click on “FAMILY HISTORY”, then click on the starting letter of the surname of interest to you, then click on the surname of interest to you (of those surnames that we currently have information on). Find the most recent Announcements, Newsletters, Chronicles, Obituaries or Media Gallery information and click on the one that you want to read or view while on the website. Some of the new additions this month include: Please review the Newsletters on this website and consider generating and inputting your own Family Newsletter for others to see. CHURCHES To make your experience more enjoyable, we have added a new choice in the website banner: Churches. When you click on Churches, a dropdown menu appears. You will notice we have installed two choices: Church History and Church Cemeteries. When you click on either of those two choices, the list of all of the States appears. You need to then click on the state you are interested in viewing material from. When you click on your state of interest, an area opens up with all of the states listed. You need to click on your state of interest to view the “Church Histories” that we have available to date, or the “Church Cemeteries” to view the pictures of the cemetery tombstones (headstones or footstones) that we have uploaded to our website as of this time. Thus far, we only have information available for the state of Mississippi; both in the Church History area and also the Church Cemeteries sections. We are working on both areas to increase the content and make it more enjoyable to the researcher. If you, as a researcher, would like to “adopt” a state, or a “county” and make contributions to Church Histories or Church Cemeteries, please “Contact Us” and make your wish known. We would like to welcome you and your efforts to assist in the fulfillment of Church Histories and Cemeteries tombstone photographs. OUR COMMUNITY: Letters from the Editor In the spirit of providing information of interest to our many viewers, we have generated “Letters from the Editor.” To read those Letters, go to the Banner, at the top of any website page, then click on “Our Community.” Once the drop-down menu appears, click on “Letters from the Editor.” A new page opens up with our Letters listed. Select the Letter you wish to read and that Letter opens up on a new page. After reading a Letter, you can either repeat this process, or click on the back-arrow to return to the Letters list. We hope that, in time, you will decide to upload your choice of material that would become a Letter from the Editor. Our most recent Letter from the Editor is: Using The Social Security Death Records – Published October, 2013 Remember that under “Our Community” you can start or join a “FORUM.” You can use most any topic for discussion. We are preparing to have “Groups” available for membership only. We will have more information available on this subject in the immediate future. ONLINE FAMILY DATABASES/TREES: During the month of September 2013, we either added or improved several GEDCOM Family History Files to our list of Family trees. To search these files, go to GEDCOM Files and click on the Tree list, then click on all Trees or the Family Tree of your choice. You can input your person of interest and click on Search to see if your person of interest is in any of these GEDCOM files. In the immediate future, we will continue to be adding more GEDCOM files for you to search. Remember that you can upload your own GEDCOM File, or send us your GEDCOM genealogy database and we will upload it for you, and add it to the databases that currently exist on our website. Be assured there will be "No Charge" for people to Search your GEDCOM database (or well as the others we are hosting). How would you like to build your own Family History database on our website, with the ability to make updates as you discover new material for addition to your website? This capability will soon be offered to the customers of our website. DNA Results: The Y-DNA Section of our website has been updated to present a better explanation of what DNA research is all about. On the website front page, click on Y-DNA to read more about DNA. After your reading, if you would like to share your DNA results [Y-DNA, MIDNA, or Autosomal DNA], you can forward that information to us and we will upload it into our website so that others can view what you have and possibly find a new relative. WEBSITE VISITORS: We pay close attention to the visitors to our website. To date, we have had visitors from 58 different countries around the world. The visitors have viewed over 25,000 pages, on an average of over 5 pages per visit. If you have concerns, let us hear from you via the “Contact Us” page. The OnlineFamilyNetwork Team
