Produce a leaflet or factfile about the Shang Dynasty.
This is a new topic to learn this year. Can you give
brief information on who/what/where/when the
Shang Dynasty were? What happened during their
reign that was interesting/important? Think about
your layout (headings, etc.)
Write a poem about a Chinese Dragon. Think about
your presentation of this piece to make it up on our
display board.
We are learning about the human body and
circulation system. The Ancient Chinese had many
beliefs about the human body, its organs and tissues.
Create a fact poster showing their ideas about these.
Mathematical
development
Can you create ten number facts using information
about the Shang Dynasty?
In the Shang Dynasty, the decimal system developed
and there were characters for every number. Write
some calculations using the characters. This website
has the characters http:www.culturalchina.com/chinaWH/html/en/10Kaleidoscope997.ht

Investigate what happens to your heart with
different sports. Measure your resting heart rate
(beats per minute). What happens after a walk? A
jog? A run? Measure every 2 minutes and plot each
activity as a separate line on a line graph (like we did
with the temperatures for the thermal insulators
investigation)
Creative
development
Chinese dragons were mythical creatures often made
up of many other animals e.g. a camel head, a snake
neck, fish scales, eagle claws, whiskers, etc.) Draw and
label your own Chinese dragon and write a detailed
description of it, including what it looks like and how it
moves. Use similes and metaphors to add detail.
Make your own Chinese Dragon head! Use boxes,
paper, paint, decorations, anything you can get your
hands on! – Try to restrict yourself on size, remember
we could potentially have 25 of these to fit into our
classroom!
We are Going for Goals in PSHE. Many significant
people in history have had to overcome difficulties
and have still succeeded. Research one of the
following (or someone else of your choice) and show
information about their life, in particular their
obstacles and what they were still able to achieve
despite these.
Albert Einstein, Ludwig Van Beethoven, J K Rowling,
Michael Jordan, Dame Kelly Holmes, Alexander Graham Bell
Research Ancient Chinese myths about dragons (this
Knowledge and
understanding of the website has good short stories
http://china.mrdonn.org/stories.html - see the dragon
world
lore powerpoint) Write your own dragon story. Will it
need to guard the wind, the rain, the precious metals?
It has recently been Chinese New Year. Research
traditional customs that are carried out at this time
of year in China and find a creative way of displaying
this information.
What year were you born in? What Chinese lunar
calendar animal is it? What are its characteristics?
Do you agree with these? Why/why not? Also do this
for members of your family.
