Even if only a third of the churches across the Church of England are able to claim this additional amount, it's worth an extra £4 million a year. GASDS have also changed since 6 April 2015; you are now able to claim back on three years of GASDS donations rather than the previous two. Christian Aid Week 10-16 May 2015 This year’s Christian Aid Week, Britain’s longest running door-to-door fundraising week, is asking the British public to support women living in poverty around the world who are discriminated against from birth. Christian Aid believes this has to change – for the sake of everyone; for the sake of women, men, girls, boys, communities and societies warped by such an extreme imbalance of power. In Ethiopia Christian Aid partner HUNDEE works with both women and men in poor rural communities to challenge violence against women and harmful traditional practices, such as child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM), to bring about lasting change and ensure women can live in dignity and are treated with respect. They also provide the poorest women in pastoralist communities with livestock, raising their status within society, because when they have a cow they have a voice in community decision making, as well as a means to earn a living. You can help to change the lives of women in places like Ethiopia this Christian Aid Week by donating online at www.caweek.org calling 08080 006 006, or texting ‘GIVE’ to 78866 to give £5. Christian Aid is a member of the ACT Alliance, a global coalition of more than 130 churches and church-related organisations that work together in humanitarian assistance, advocacy and development. http://actalliance.org. Follow Christian Aid's newswire on Twitter: http://twitter.com/caid_newswire. For more information about the work of Christian Aid, visit http://www.christianaid.org.uk Grantfinder – Church Urban Fund Church Urban Fund is passionate about bringing God’s love, hope and justice to the poorest and most marginalised people in England, empowering them to transform their lives. Poverty is not simply about a lack of money – it is a complex web of low wages, unemployment and high living costs. CUF believes that if we work together we can see lives transformed. They believe the local church is uniquely placed to make this happen. Found in every part of the country, as a relational community responding to the gospel message to serve those in need, the church is well positioned to act as an agenda for deep social change. The Together Grants programme provides small grants of up to £5,000 for faith based organisations to engage in social action, by supporting them to initiate or develop community work. For more details of the programme and the criteria for funding, please contact Jayne Tarry on Jayne.tarry@winchester.anglican.org / 01962 737348. The Conservation Foundation - The Yew Tree Project The Heritage Lottery Fund is supporting an ancient and veteran yew tree campaign being launched in early May this year. Ancient yews are estimated to be at least 1000 years old and veteran yews are between 500 and 1000 years. The campaign will be managed by The Conservation Foundation in association with the Church of England - 217 of the country’s 272 ancient yews are in churchyards. The campaign will include the distribution of young yews to communities and churches to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta. The young yews have been propagated from veteran and ancient yews that were growing at the time of the Magna Carta. It is thought the ancient yew at Ankerwycke, near Runnymede was where King John, his Barons and the Bishops gathered to witness the Magna Carta. There will also be small grants available to support local community and school projects to do historical research around their ancient or veteran yew. Funding is also available for maintenance work on ancient and veteran yews, along with guidance on their management. A list of ancient and veteran trees listed by Diocese can be found on the Ancient Yew Group website: http://www.ancientyew.org/. Further information will be available on the campaign’s website at when the project is launched in early May. In response to this why not attend one of the election hustings local to you? If you do be aware that the organisers of these events sometimes ask for questions in advance. To help with this the Diocesan Environmental Group have devised a few questions you could use as a way of discovering more about what our political leaders are doing to care for God’s creation.
