Player Rules and Guidelines
Player Conduct: Participation in athletics at Highview Christian is a privilege. It is expected that
each student athlete should always be respectful to teammates, coaches, officials, and the
opposition at all times. Whether in the gym, classroom, hallway, or on the field, Highview
student athletes should be positive role models displaying Christian character. Any action that
displays poor sportsmanship (arguing with officials, questioning authority, etc.) or bad
character could result in that student athlete being dismissed from practices, games, or the
team itself. Removal of any kind will be the decision of the Athletic Director or Headmaster.
An athlete’s conduct also includes behavior when eating out after games in any public facility.
All student athletes will display strong Christian character in all public forums and remember
that they represent not only themselves but God, their family, the school, and their community.
The goal of Highview Christian athletics is to leave a good testimony with whomever may
observe our teams.
Each student athlete is responsible for their own meal expense when stopping before or after
games. Bag meals are allowed and in some cases recommended.
Attendance: Faithful attendance to all practices and games is mandatory. Unless a doctor’s
note stating that a player is unable to play or practice is provided every player needs to be at all
practices and games. If a player is injured or sick and attends school the day of a practice or
game it is required that they come to practice or the game to watch and support their
teammates. Work schedules are to be planned around practices and games, no exceptions. If
possible any appointments, (doctors, dentists, etc.) should be made during times when athletic
seasons are not in session.
Transportation: Transportation to and from games and practices is provided. If girls and boys
travel together, seats will be assigned. The driver or coach will decide who sits where. All team
members, including managers, will travel with the team to all games in school assigned
vehicles. Players may be signed out to travel home with parents or other family members.
Players will not be allowed to travel with non-family members. Coaches will have sign out
sheets available after the games are over. If a parent wants to ride with the team when space is
available they can do so. There will be a $5.00 fee to travel with the team. We encourage
parents to allow their student athlete to travel to and from games with the team.
All laptops, iPods, mp3 players, or tablets will not be allowed. Cell phones are allowed for
emergency reasons only. No texting or game playing will be allowed. Drivers or coaches will
decide what music will be played in the vehicle. We encourage each athlete to take time on
trips to get to know those they may not know. Travel time is a good opportunity for team
bonding.
Attire: During the Fall and Spring sport season’s team members will wear their uniforms to and
from the games. Players will not change when the team stops to eat. Uniforms are to be put in
the appropriate bin upon arrival back to Highview. No player should wear their uniform home.
Each player is responsible to bring their own equipment such as: mouth guards, water bottles,
shin guards, cleats, sneakers, or socks.
Proper practice wear should be worn for the sport the player participates in. No player will be
allowed to practice in school attire, jeans, or dress shoes.
In some instances practice attire will be provided by the athletic department. Girls practice
shorts for soccer should be no shorter than their game shorts. Any violation will result in
immediate dismissal from practice and shorts will be provided for the rest of the season.
***No jewelry of any kind is to be worn during practices or games.
Grades: Our student athletes should maintain their grades. If, at any time, a student athlete
must miss a practice for academic reasons he is required to notify his coach and or the athletic
director. Any student that is not passing all core subjects at the midpoint of each quarter or at
the end of a quarter will be removed from all team activities. If a player gets an academic
detention they will not be allowed to practice if it falls on a practice day. If it falls on a game day
they will not be able to travel to an away game, but will dress, not play and sit on the bench for
a home game.
Drug/Alcohol Test: Tests can be given at any time by any member of the school’s
administration. All student athletes are subject to these random tests without warning. Refusal
to submit to any test will result in immediate dismissal from the team.
Athletic Fundraisers: Highview Athletics is self-supporting (it receives no funds from the
school’s general fund) and is dependent on fundraising to supplement its various programs. All
team members of a particular sport are required to participate in whatever fundraiser is being
used to finance that sport, or the Athletic Department in general.
