Torero Spirit and Traditions Coordinator
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The Torero Spirit and Traditions Coordinator reports directly to the Vice Chair of Main Events and is
responsible for programming successful programs and events supporting Torero Athletics, Sports Clubs,
Associated Students, Alumni Relations, and the Student Alumni Council. This coordinator is also responsible
for events during Homecoming Spirit Week, Parents Weekend, Networking events, and other campus-wide
traditional events suited to the needs and interests of the USD Student Body.
General Responsibilities
Torero Program Board:
 Attend all scheduled Torero Program Board Retreats and Meetings.
 Responsible for a minimum of 8 office hours per week (more hours will be necessary during certain
weeks and will vary for each TPB position)
 Meet with Torero Program Board advisor/s for professional development.
 Attend and support Torero Program Board events/programs.
 Manage the TPB Budget responsibly.
 Mentor and train newly appointed coordinators during the spring transition period.
 Complete necessary planning forms.
o Budget Forms
o Marketing Forms
o Event Proposal Forms
o Event Registration Forms
 If applicable, arrange for the prompt payment of performing artists by working in conjunction with
respective Vice Chair.
 Meet weekly with designated supervisor.
 Abide by all University policies and procedures.
Specific Responsibilities:
 Directly report to the Vice Chair of Main Events.
 Plan, implement and evaluate events, such as tailgates during game days.
 Instill a sense of school spirit, not only at athletic games, but also in daily student life.
 Acts as the main coordinator for all Homecoming/Spirit Week activities.
 Coordinate additional events and opportunities that promote unity and spirit among the
undergraduate student body.
 Recruit, chair and provide leadership for the Homecoming/Spirit Week Committee.
o Coordinate Homecoming Planning Committee (current and next year).
 Will be responsible for educating the campus community with opportunities to hang up the banner
at athletic games and sing the “School Fight Song.”
 Work cooperatively with other campus departments, such as Athletics, and student organizations to
coordinate spirit events.
 Work with Torero Program Board advisor(s) and SLIC advisor(s) to make any contractual
agreements.
 Work with necessary departments for technical support at events.
 Recruit, chair and provide leadership for the Traditions Committee
 Responsible for programming, but not limited to, a series of events per semester:
o Homecoming Festival
o Implement or Continue an Athletics Tradition
o Implement or Continue a Spirit Tradition
o Two (2) Non-sport related Spirit Event
o Four (4) Tailgates for respective USD Sport
 This position would only be for the Spring semester, so programming will be specific to that term.
