The Cal State Online website, www.calstateonline.net, launched earlier this month and is accepting applications for programs to start later this year. Three of those will be administered by CSU Dominguez Hills. They include the university’s existing Bachelor of Science in Applied Studies, an interdisciplinary degree completion program geared to working individuals who have some college course credits; as well as the expansion of its Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Public Administration (MPA) offerings. The programs will be delivered in an accelerated format, with two eight-week sessions per semester and in summer, providing the potential for a student to complete his/her degree in 18 months from anywhere in the world. CSU Dominguez Hills has a proven history of online education. In 1995, it was the first CSU campus to offer a degree fully online, a Master of Science in Quality Assurance, and today offers three bachelor’s, six master’s and seven certificate programs via distance learning methods—online and television/Internet broadcasts— more than any other CSU. By partnering with Cal State Online, CSU Dominguez Hills can leverage the resources a systemwide approach affords with its campus expertise to provide even greater access, expanded student support services, and diversity of programs. The university has developed several new MBA and MPA concentrations that will be exclusive to Cal State Online. They include MBA concentrations in entrepreneurship; microenterprise and small business; global logistics and supply chain; hospitality management; sports management; and entertainment management; and MPA concentrations in healthcare administration, criminal justice administration, and not-forprofit administration. The university’s existing MBA and MPA online programs will continue to be offered and will not change. “We have strong traditional MBA and MPA programs in house already,” said Joseph Wen, dean of the College of Business Administration and Public Policy. “These new specialized programs will give us a competitive edge. We won’t be just another MBA/MPA program.” The new concentrations play to the university’s proximity to the largest port complexes in the world, the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, to Hollywood, Las Vegas and major sports venues, including one right on our campus, The Home Depot Center, as well as being in one of the largest counties in the nation. They will be taught by qualified scholars and practitioners with expertise in these areas.
