Proposals that have not been received by the deadline will be considered only if funds remain after proposals received by the deadline have been considered. The CSU Office of Community Service Learning invites proposals from CSU faculty for multicampus initiatives to be implemented in academic year 2006-7. We ask your assistance in helping us announce this opportunity to faculty involved in engaged scholarship. For the purpose of this initiative we define engaged scholarship as follows: Engaged scholarship refers to research and/or creative work that either directly studies or addresses a community need or the processes by which the university and other institutions are involved in addressing these needs. Examples include studies and participatory action research on health, education, environment, or safety (and other) concerns in communities, studies on the effectiveness of pedagogies (such as service learning) in engaging students in their communities, or studies on the effectiveness of public and/or private agencies in addressing these needs. The intent of this mini-grant program is to enable faculty on different CSU campuses who work in related areas to develop collaborative teams to expand their work across campuses. We anticipate funding up to four mini-grants for projects with budgets limited to $2,000-$3,000 each. The Request for Proposals is enclosed. We hope to announce awards the week of May 8, 2006. Questions about this Request for Proposals may be addressed to Gerald Eisman, Service-Learning Faculty Scholar, geisman@calstate.edu. Thank you for your assistance. Sincerely, Jerry Gerald Eisman Service-Learning Faculty Scholar CSU, Office of the Chancellor 401 GOLDEN SHORE, LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA 90802-4210 FAX (562) 951-4983
