The MISSION of Heritage High School is to offer an educational program that provides students with
literacy skills; math and science principles; and knowledge of technology applications, literature, and
history that prepares them to pursue a college education or to enter the work force fully prepared for
whatever path they choose.
VISION
We envision Heritage High School as a learning community in which:


All students are provided with educational and technical experiences through diversified
instruction to prepare them for post-secondary college or career training experiences.
All students are provided with experiences to facilitate their growth into useful productive
citizens.

School Performance Index (SPI):


Congratulations to Heritage High School for receiving a 2 on SPI. The SPI is the
measuring index to evaluate schools. The index is based on growth. It is on scale 1 to 5,
one being the highest. The SPI will be the new measuring tool instead of AYP.
Let’s keep this accomplishment in mind throughout the year in order to move forward.
Updates:








SENIOR FAREWELL REHEARSHALS- Seniors will be practicing for the Farewell
and Graduation ceremonies on May 13th, 14th, and 17th. The practices will be held in the
afternoon.
PARENT-CONFERENCES- May 17th is a half-day for parent conferences. We will
follow our half say schedule. The half-day schedule is the same as the H.S.A. hybrid
days.
SENIOR GRADES- All Senior 4th quarter grades should be entered into SMS by close
of business on May 17th. This includes students who are Seniors but are in non-traditional
Senior classes.
SENIOR EXAMS- Senior exams will be taken May 20-22. A detailed schedule will be
distributed during Department Meetings on Monday. ONLY SENIORS MAY TAKE
EXAMS DURING THIS TIME PERIOD.
APEX- All Seniors enrolled in APEX must be completed by May 17th. Please encourage
Seniors as they move to finalizing requirements for graduation.
SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION- We are looking for interested staff in order to mentor
our college bound seniors. This support can consist of dropping a student off at college or
providing tutoring for the student in his/her classes. Details are forthcoming on how you
can be involved
.
SATURDAY SCHOOL-Encourage invited students to attend the H.S.A. Saturday
School. This will give students the opportunity to work on needed skills in order to pass
the H.S.A., which will be administered May 20-22. The sessions will be held on May
18th. All students are invited to attend. Please personally invite students to the sessions
who you believe would benefit from the program. Bus passes can be obtained from Ms.
Somerville in B-100.
H.S.A. HYBRID SCHEDULE- On Mondays and Tuesdays during the months of May,
we will have a special hybrid schedule. If you need materials or have concerns with your
role in the process please see Ms. Snyder. If you need instructional materials or content
assistance please see Ms. Dexter-Thornton for English, Ms. Snyder for Biology, or Ms.
Arana for Data Analysis.
Staff Member of the Month:

Congratulations to Ms. Arana for being named Staff Member of the Month! Ms. Arana
will be able to park in the Staff Member of the Month parking spot. Please do not park in
the spot.
Praise and Polish

There are none at this time. Please make sure if you have any praises or polishes you
submit the forms in the specially designed box in the Teacher’s Lounge.









POWER TEACHER GRADEBOOK-City Schools Information Technology
Department (ITD) completed the configuration and updates to the grading tables in PTG
for all schools. Teachers can now log into PTG and add assignments and grades to the
score sheet. To learn more about creating assignments and entering grades, teachers
should log into the TSS and view the PTG training videos. If you have any general
questions or comments regarding this City Schools technology alert, please contact the
ITD Service Support Center at 443-642-3000 or ITDsupport@bcps.k12.md.us.
DRESS CODE- Students have received dress code letters. Make sure that you are
enforcing the dress code. If a student is dressed inappropriately, please send an e-mail to
Ms. Henson. She will come and remove the student from your class.
BUDGET CONCERNS- Any staff members who have budget concerns or questions
please contact Ms. Farmer directly.
DISTRICT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT- District PD will be held on June
13th, 14th, and 17th. Make sure that you register for appropriate PD for the three
aforementioned days.
PREPARATION SY 2013-2014- Since the budget process is coming to a close and the
professional development days are planned for district-wide plans next year will be
distributed through a series of e-mails.
TAKE NOTE-Please make sure you are reading the Take Note section under the Current
Action tab on the City Schools website. This outlines wonderful opportunities for
students and staff. Don’t miss out.
LATE BOOK- The sign-in, late and on-time books, are used for payroll. Refusal or
failure to sign the books, which ever book is applicable, will jeopardize your payment for
the day.
WORK PACKETS- Teachers must provide work packets for suspended students. It is
part of our professional and legal responsibility



Kudos to Ms. Womack and the following NFTE Students. Esther Obeng, Telvin Chester,
Blair Caldwell, Tavon Coleman, and Stephon Brown for being awared monetary prizes
for the business plans created.
Kudos to Ms. Womack, Ms. Snyder, and the entire staff for our H.S.A. testing
administration. We received high remarks from the audit team from the district.

