Delion95.rdl: hey there.... you had mentioned you created a live binder? where do i find it
mlcroy83: go to livebinders.com, log in: username rd9457 and password is ######
Sent at 9:07 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: Did you read the idea I had about the question and them having to create a brochure
thing to persaude someone to live in a certain region?
Delion95.rdl great...i was able to get in.
mlcroy83: Good!
Sent at 9:09 AM on Saturday
me: i have a list of some websites that we can possibly use... should they be added there for
now?
mlcroy83: Yes, you can go ahead and add them. We can keep the tabs the way they are or
change them later into the different regions if we want.
Sent at 9:13 AM on Saturday
Delion95.rdl okay. do we plan on leading the kids to live binder then? or will we place the links
to sites we want them to go to via the webquest
Sent at 9:14 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: The rubric says that the web resources is available to students in the form of a
pathfinder (live binders), so I am guessing we will connect a link from the web quest to the live
binder.
Sent at 9:16 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: It definitely does have to be linked to the wiki though.
Sent at 9:17 AM on Saturday
Delion95.rdl i think that we could use live binders to put possible sites that we can consider for
the webquest..... then put the actual links to the ones we will use during the webquest inside the
webquest.
Sent at 9:22 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: Maybe we could pose the introduction like a celebrity is moving to Texas and needs
your help to find a place. You can win a free dinner with the celebrity if you can help him locate
a region to move to.
I think that sounds good about having the livebinders and putting the resources we use in the
actual web quest.
Sent at 9:24 AM on Saturday
Delion95.rdl Yes, i was reading that the webquest had to be an exciting task... i like your
revised task
mlcroy83: I'm trying to get my mind thinking like a 4th grader and what would excite them
about doing a webquest. Do you have any other ideas?
Sent at 9:26 AM on Saturday
Delion95.rdl no kidding.... should we consider a TEKS in upper grades then?
mlcroy83: I think I'm alright with 4th grade (that's already streching it for me since I
Delion95.rdl I am afraid that the webquest might be overwhelming at that grade level
mlcroy83: have done only the little kids
Delion95.rdl can you imagine them have ing to go to all these links and decipher info presented
in them
mlcroy83: The powerpoint said that you can start them at 3rd grade. I really do think it will be
ok.
Sent at 9:32 AM on Saturday
Delion95.rdl I was looking back at the teks and the students need to 7 (B) ~ identify, locate, and
compare the geographic regions of Texas (Mountains and Basins, Great Plains, North Centeral
Plains, Coastal Plains) including their landforms, climate, and vegetation..... if we present them
with the task to find a place for a person to live, will it help students look at regions instead of a
specific city.
Sent at 9:37 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: we could phrase the question that we need to help the celebrity find a region so that
its specific and meets the tek. they could create a brochure(product) that convinces the celebrity
to move to a certain region by presenting the facts(landforms, climate, vegetation) in it.
Sent at 9:39 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: students creating a brochure will be the synthesis and evaluation part of the higher
order thinking on the rubric
Sent at 9:41 AM on Saturday
Delion95.rdl heres a thought... the student is head of the committee to gather information of all
the different regions and they are required to present the information to a huge company that will
create lots of opportunities for that region... and of course we could jazz it up a bit...... OR......
there is a Texas showdown of regions to select the BEST region in texas.....
Sent at 9:47 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: could you explain more about what you mean when you say a texas show down?
Sent at 9:51 AM on Saturday
Delion95.rdl something along the lines of "what is the best region to live in texas" and the
winner gets an official title sanctioned by the state of texas... the student could be a writer or
collector of information for the committee? we could assign each student to gather info on all
regions, then have then create a brochure or presentation on which region they consider the best.
...
Sent at 9:58 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: I'm liking this idea
Sent at 10:00 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: could be the winner gets to meet with the governor too or someone really "famous"
to add in to the bonus of winning
Delion95.rdl we could give the comp a catchy title... and
ooh...like that last part you added
Sent at 10:01 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: oh maybe a helicopter ride over the region they picked to be the best.... just
throwing out ideas. I know this is just a little part of the assingment, but the catchy part is
important. I'm thinking about the title right now. Do you have ideas?
Delion95.rdl yes... it has to be exciting. let me ponder for a bit
Sent at 10:04 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: maybe it could be: Reward: Free Helicopter Ride (click to find out more) ~ we
could replace the reward part with whatever we decide they will win for picking the best region
OR Best Region = Free Helicopter Ride
Sent at 10:08 AM on Saturday
Delion95.rdl How about the winning region is deemed the Texas Rocking Region.... and i like
the idea of reward---- Reward for the Rocking Region of Texas- (whatever the prize is)thoughts.... is it too corny
Sent at 10:17 AM on Saturday
Delion95.rdl i put about 5 links on the livebinder
mlcroy83: Hehe no its not corny, we can keep thinking on the title part. That's one of those
things that will just pop in my head at such a random time. I am very much a checklist kind of
person to get things done, so if it is ok with you I am going to write some things for us to
accomplish in the next couple of days.
Delion95.rdl thats perfectly fine with me.
Sent at 10:20 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: Here is what I came up with:
Both of us find 3 websites (I'm not sure how many you have already found), 2 videos, and 2
copyright free images of each region (add citation with picture too so we have that). All these
things will go on the livebinders for now.
Delion95.rdl I am going to create a rubric for the evaluation and make a template for students to
find region characteristics (climate, landforms etc)
mlcroy83: : Add our chat from today and the text messages from yesterday to our wiki and then
work on the standards for the teacher page on the webquest.
Yes, we are working on different things, but in the end we can both add or change the parts we
worked on to make sure the project is still collaborative. What do you think?
Sent at 10:28 AM on Saturday
Delion95.rdl too funny... i had already copied the chat and thinking of adding it as a subfolder
on communications...
i have a template for the regions
mlcroy83: very cool! will you send it to me as an attachment in email?
Delion95.rdl yes... will do
Sent at 10:32 AM on Saturday
Delion95.rdl although on some of the pieces like the rubric, standards, and templates, we can
actually create a google doc and work on it simultaneously...that way we each have input on each
component.
mlcroy83: I definitely like that idea. Do you know how to start one?
Sent at 10:34 AM on Saturday
Delion95.rdl we could create a timeline... for example, we can meet again tomorrow at some
agreed upon time and decide we are going to work on the template for students to complete... and
maybe start on standards. the rubric should be left to end since we have to put webquest together
to have an idea what we can expect and assess
Sent at 10:36 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: can we both work in google doc at the same time?
Delion95.rdl yes. its really cool. do you have a gmail account
mlcroy83: yes i do
Delion95.rdl seend me your gmail address
mlcroy83: mlcroy83@gmail.com
Sent at 10:38 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: do you want to set up the google doc with the rubric you have and then invite me to
it?
Delion95.rdl okay. will create initial document and send to you.
thats what i was working on right now
mlcroy83: that sounds good. I can meet any time after 2:00 tomorrow to work on the google
doc/chat again. What time works for you?
Delion95.rdl 2 sounds good, if it changes i will let you know
via text.
mlcroy83: Ok, will you still add all of our chat session and text messages to the communication
page in the wiki?
Delion95.rdl yes. will send you log soon. is that it for now?
Sent at 10:46 AM on Saturday
mlcroy83: I think so for today. I will still work on finding the resources for the livebinders and
then we will work on the template for the regions and the standards tomorrow in google doc.
Thanks for chatting with me today
Delion95.rdl ok. check out live binders... i added 5 websites on there. bye
mlcroy83: Awesome! will do. bye
