CLEAN POWER, MADE IN MAINE, FOR MAINE
The Rollins Wind project is producing economic benefits in the
Maine communities of Lincoln, Burlington, Lee and Winn by
harvesting clean, renewable wind energy. This natural and
inexhaustible wind resource is enhancing the local economy
for all residents for many years to come – without the negative
ecological and health effects of a traditional fossil-fueled
power plant.
THE ROLLINS WIND FARM:
Consists of 40 GE 1.5 megawatt (MW) wind turbines,
which combined have the capacity to generate up to 60
MW of clean electricity – enough to power over 23,000
New England homes per year
Increased tax revenue – payments are being made to
towns over a multi-year period; in Lincoln, the town was
able to hire a new police officer and use the funds toward
police and fire vehicles.
Created more jobs for local residents. The project hired
locally whenever possible, providing construction,
operations, and maintenance employment opportunities.
BENEFITTING LOCAL MAINE
COMMUNITIES, ECONOMICALLY AND
ENVIRONMENTALLY
First Wind believes that responsible wind power development is
more than just a business: it’s a long-term commitment to
communities. That’s why the Rollins Wind project team has been
working with residents every step of the way, as we developed,
built, and now operate a wind farm that provides a broad range of
local, economic, and environmental benefits for Maine
communities.
ECONOMIC BENEFITS
Annual tax revenue from Rollins Wind has been used to keep
tax rates down, hire police, maintain roads and enhance
services.
An average of more than 200 people worked on the project
during construction.
Rollins Wind is helping reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Rollins Wind is helping America gain energy independence,
strengthening the diversity of the nation’s energy supply
ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS
Wind Energy produces zero air or water pollution.
Unlike conventional methods of electricity production, wind
power uses almost no water and emits no mercury, a leading
cause of contamination in our rivers and lakes
Wind farms enable local property owners to capture a new
source of clean energy on their land.
A traditional fossil-fueled generation facility in New England
producing an equivalent amount of electric energy would
consume over 261,700 barrels of oil per year or over 61,000
tons of coal per year.
