PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION Shaping the Next 25 Years of AgriBusiness in Uganda with US Partnerships KAMPALA, Uganda – 25th March, 2015 – The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Uganda and the US Mission Kampala, along with its Platinum Sponsor Stanbic Bank today announce the premier event of AmCham Uganda 2015: Generation AgriPreneur Summit & Expo to be held April 21-22, 2015 at the Multipurpose Exhibition Hall at the UMA Showgrounds, Lugogo on Jinja Road, Kampala. What is an AgriPreneur? An AgriPreneur is an entrepreneur with the love of agriculture who has an acquired professional business approach to create a profitable agribusiness. With the experience of generations of advanced US farming practices, and advancements in USA technology, services and markets, our 12 visiting American delegation partners attending the event next month, networking and training together with Ugandan agripreneurs, Ugandan agribusinesses and service providers, and AmCham Uganda members, are looking to help shape the next 25 years of agribusiness in Uganda to grow US trade for the agriculture sector. The mission of AmCham Uganda is to bring together all of the key stakeholders in Uganda and abroad who are interested in developing partnerships with US investors and companies for the betterment of our respective businesses. “We saw this event as the perfect opportunity to bring in new concepts in agribusiness and agriculture from US Partners and technologists. We started by asking the farmers, what is it you most want to learn about? They asked to learn better governance practices, ways to reach higher yield, better storage solutions, and ways to get better financing. Then we reached out to the agro-processors and asked a similar question, what do you need in order to improve your profitability? They want to have a better understanding of the required standards in order to reach new markets, better packaging solutions, and access to better financing. So, together, all of this culminated into the creation of our Generation AgriPreneur event and our outreach to US companies interested in working with Uganda and the region,” says Meg Jaquay, Chairperson of the event, and VP of AmCham Uganda. With new US Partnerships focused on the expansion of US Trade of goods and services, we are meeting the mission of AmCham to build our member’s network of business contacts both here and abroad. "We believe that agribusiness is the key to spur Uganda’s economic growth, increase trade volumes, and attract more foreign investment,” according to acting U.S. Deputy Ambassador Michael Newbill. “The Generation Agripreneur Expo and Summit will help promote stronger commercial ties between Uganda and the U.S. in the agribusiness sector and unlock Uganda’s considerable agricultural potential. I commend AmCham Uganda for their efforts and welcome the extremely productive partnership with the U.S. Embassy.” “At New Vision, we recognize the importance of agribusiness as a key economic activity in Uganda. Through our pullout Harvest Money, we have been pushing for the growth of the sector by profiling success stories and focusing on key issues in the sector. Last year we took this a step further by introducing the Best Farmers' Competition, an initiative that looks at rewarding farmers across the country. The partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce is yet another opportunity for us to support the growth of the sector,” says Susan Nsibirwa, Head of Marketing & Communications, New Vision Group. The event will be attended by senior executives from the private sector agribusiness industry, young entrepreneurs, farmers associations, and service providers who support the sector, enabling exhibitors to target key decision-makers.
