Full time Leadership Coach – New Orleans Position Specification THE ORGANIZATION: Leading Educators develops teacher-leaders in order to increase faculty effectiveness, retain talented educators, and ultimately raise student achievement in high-need schools. We aim to ensure that public education successfully trains its middle leaders, to extend the reach of our best teachers and bolster the pipeline of future principals. Our flagship program is a two-year Fellowship where teacher-leaders engage in frequent leadership development sessions and strengthen their ability to coach and provide feedback to other teachers. Results from the last academic year show that teams led by New Orleans Fellows demonstrated 12 times more growth on state tests than their counterparts. Similarly, teams led by Kansas City Fellows demonstrated 5 times more growth on state tests than their counterparts. Leading Educators also offers customized consulting to districts, charter management organizations (CMOs), and non-profit organizations through our Strategic Support Initiatives (SSI). This contract-based work may include delivery of training modules; consulting on teacher-leader recruitment, selection, and retention; or developing the capacity of external trainers. Leading Educators has trained over 160 teacher-leaders in programs in New Orleans, Kansas City, and Houston, and is currently launching partnerships in Washington, D.C. and Denver. Building on success in these regions, Leading Educators is assembling an ambitious team to continue our national expansion. The work is fast-paced and entrepreneurial; the expansion model aims to serve 12 regions by 2016. The Position: The Leadership Coach undertakes direct coaching of participants in the Leading Educators Fellowship, relationship development, and continued program development. The role reports to the Regional Executive Director and will have the following main responsibilities: Coach Fellows to develop leadership competencies, be effective in school roles, and successfully plan, implement and evaluate their Leader Impact Projects Provide regular written progress and assessment reports on participants, relative to participant development and student achievement Engage principals/supervisors to best leverage influence and support for Fellows to be effective in their schools Analyze Fellows roles, specific responsibilities, common issues and challenges of Fellows in their schools in order to contribute to more effective work with school leaders and to increase Leading Educators’ organizational knowledge Assist in the development and refinement of Leading Educators’ coaching model and coaching reporting system Nurture relationships with school leaders and teacher-leaders at school sites to share information about the Leading Educators program and recruit for the next cohort of participants Model and foster the Leading Educators values of Achievement, Service to Others, Belief in Potential, Ingenuity and Efficiency Participate in internal staff development sessions to bolster professional skill set and enhance overall organizational effectiveness Assist in the tracking of Leader Impact deliverables throughout the year Model office and team expectations Additional responsibilities as needed: Attend and occasionally facilitate Fellowship sessions and trainings Facilitate principal trainings on the Leading Educators Leadership Competency Framework and Leader Impact Project Contribute to program evaluation by observing Problem Solving Communities and providing feedback Participate in the Fellowship Selection and Enrollment processes The Coach may be required to participate in additional events that occur outside of the normal Monday through Friday work schedule. CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS: The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to improving high needs schools through coaching and training. The candidate should also possess the following: Significant teaching and leadership experience in a high-performing, high-need public school Instructional coaching experience Candidates with mentoring/advisory experience should have one year formal responsibility and be able to demonstrate the use of a bestpractice protocol they follow in their work Coaches from outside of school systems, who have experience coaching those in schools: should have 2 years minimum experience leadership or instructional coaching within schools plus either adult or student assessment experience; and, have formal training in a recognized coaching protocol. Coaches with no experience within a school should have 5 years minimum leadership coaching-as-primary-work and have formal training in a recognized coaching protocol. Successful experience coaching and assessing adults within a given framework that enables skill development Demonstrated ability to motivate others to meet ambitious goals Knowledge of the school improvement context, both nationally and in New Orleans, and of current, effective innovations in education Discretion in protecting the confidentiality of participants and schools Enthusiasm for being assessed and receiving feedback on performance as a coach LOCATION: New Orleans, LA COMPENSATION: Salary and benefits will be competitive, commensurate with experience.
