Monday Notes - Week of 4.27.15

Happy Birthday to Margo. She celebrates her birthday on April 27th. Hayley's birthday is April

29th. We're glad you were both born.

Early Release Approaching: Friday, May 8, 2015

In preparation for our upcoming Early Release Day, each elementary school is distributing an online survey for families to complete. Here is the information that will be shared along with a live link. Karen

On Friday, May 8, 2015, elementary students in the Grafton School District in grades 5K - 5 will be released at 11:40 AM (students in 4K will follow their normal AM and PM schedules). Elementary teachers will be engaging in collaborative professional development opportunities focused on student learning during the afternoon.

To ensure that all children have a plan for care for the afternoon, parents are to complete and submit this form for elementary school student (5K - 5) no later than Friday, May 1, 2015.

 Per Beth Lambie’s email yesterday, please make sure to send Beth a copy of your classroom schedule if you didn't by the end of the day on Friday. In addition, please complete your responses to the six guiding questions by the end of the day Monday; the link to the questions is below: http://goo.gl/forms/yPM0t5lAfn

Please remember that Amy, Jen, and I would appreciate your supporting your colleagues' professional development by bringing a sample of a vocabulary strategy/resource you've used to our next faculty meeting on April 27th. Please read this article before that faculty meeting as we'll be focusing on close reading as it relates to informational text. REMEMBER TO PUT YOUR

SAMPLE/RESOURCE IN THE PD LOG.

I have created a communication log and a professional development log that is editable. This enables you to actually type into the document and add links to a sample newsletter for example

or a professional development certificate that will be linked when you upload it. In order for you to use an editable form of either of these documents, you MUST MAKE A COPY OF YOUR

OWN AND RENAME IT . You can do that by clicking on "File" and then choosing "Make a copy".

Then you can rename it and use it as your own artifact. On the logs I've provided you copies of, you'll see how I linked a sample newsletter on the communication log and a book study schedule

I linked on my professional development log. IT WILL BE CRITICALLY IMPORTANT TO

COMPLETE YOUR ARTIFACT UPLOADS BY MAY 15TH. I found out recently that a rollover occurs on June 30th and if the process is NOT completed (meaning artifacts uploaded, SLO documentation completed, observations completed) the rollover cannot be completed and information moved on to the next year's EEP cycle.

New Information

There have been questions regarding the results from our Badger exams. As far as I know there will be general information regarding overall percentile scores (not sure how granular - grade level, district wide, ??). Once DPI posts the information, Rick will provide us with some information. There is no information currently regarding individual student percentile results.

As I complete walk-throughs, I will let you know. You are able to view them in MLP once they are finished. Not all standard summaries may be completed as a walk-through is much briefer than a formal observation. Generally it will only be possible in a 20-30 minute period to obtain evidence from Standard 3 and Standard 5. In some cases, Standard 4 may be evident. Post-conferences are not generally held for walk-throughs but, if there are questions, we can certainly sit down and review together.

We will use our last IST date to configure tentative plans for I-time for 2015-16. Obviously, new fall assessments will require us to make adjustments but it would be in students' best interest to hit the ground running with a plan for what interventions will be in place, what students will be in which interventions, and who will be administering the intervention. We'll also be using the time to begin the discussion of class assignments for 2015-16. If you and your grade level colleagues could use this Google Doc to identify a tentative list, considering student conflicts, boy-girl ratio, special ed clusters, it will provide more efficiency in beginning the dialogue. We'll use the normal

90 minute IST time and, if necessary, meet again before or after school to continue the process.

Thanks.

I have located a previous Awards Assembly agenda. I've uploaded it to create a Google Doc.

Please add any other awards you'd like me to give or any that you'd like to distribute to students.

Gentle Reminders

EEP Information NEW ITEMS!

Various members of the staff have had questions regarding documenting artifacts. Here are some resources that may help. I will move these resources to the Educator Effective page of the wiki after this week so you can access them at any time. Please consider a balance of artifacts that show evidence of SLO work/student growth data, your professional practice goal work, and any standards you identified as areas for growth.

Technology Tips

Each week I will post some tip or resource that you may find useful and want to check out. I encourage anyone else, who would like to post something,to send me the information and

I'll be sure to add it!

Educreations is an exciting app that transforms your iPad into a recordable whiteboard. It records your voice, handwriting and also allows you to insert pictures to produce your own personal video lessons that you and your students can share online. Your lessons are stored online and can be accessed by students on any computer or iPad.
