January 29th Introductory session @ NJIT (CKB 223) The remaining class room sessions for NYU/Mt. Sinai and Hunter College students will be held at the Hunter College media room at Room C105, Hunter North (132 E 68th Street) 9:00-12:00 Wednesday. NYU and Mount Sinai students will have to get a pass across the street at the main building information desk at 68th Street and Lex. You will need to have government issued ID with you in order to get your pass. NJIT students will go to their respective video centers. Rutgers students will meet in SPH 334. Hudson Scenic Studios is a large set design company. They manufacture and design sets for the Broadway stage, traveling stage shows. First report due. Mar.26th: Review of the site visit to the American Museum of Natural History and discussion of the University Hospital of N.J and Pulaski Skyway Rehabilitation Project site visits. Apr2nd: University Hospital of N.J @ 150 Bergen St, Newark, NJ 07103 Apr 9: Pulaski Skyway Rehabilitation Project. The contractor is CCA Civil Inc. @ 23 Second St, Kearny NJ 07032 April 16th: Review of site visits to University Hospital of N.J and the Pulaski Skyway Rehabilitation Project. The second half of the class will be a discussion regarding the upcoming site visit to GMD ship yard and Scott Jordan furniture manufacturer. GMD is a ship repair yard located inside the Brooklyn Navy Yard. They repair ships, barges and other marine vessels. The Brooklyn Navy yard was established by the US government in 1801. Scott Jordan is a manufacturer of locally produced furniture made from sustainable wood. You are allowed to miss one site visit during the semester. April 23 counts as one site visit, you do not have to attend the afternoon visit. Each student must turn in two site visit reports and pass the final exam. Please do not send reports in a pdf. format. A failing grade will be given to any report suspected of plagiarism. Each report will count for 1/3 of the final grade (2/3). The final exam will be the other 1/3rd. The final exam will be based on site visits, class room discussions and assigned reading material. Reports submitted after the due date will be reduced a minimum of one letter grade, and no report will be accepted after it is one week late. Reports returned to you for re-editing must be resubmitted within a week after they are returned to you. All sources must be cited using a standard citation style. You must take notes at all site visits. Reports will be graded for completeness, identification of hazards and controls, the quality and appropriateness of health & safety recommendations, and the accuracy of the overall evaluation of the health & safety program at the site.
