Principal’s Message
It is very hard to believe that I am writing the message for the final newsletter of the year. What a great year it
has been. We have had so many people in our school helping make Fairview A Special Place.
 I would like to thank all of the family volunteers this year. Each volunteer has had to complete a police
record check, making volunteering just a little bit more difficult. So many people completed the check and
have been active in the school. Thank you for the extra effort.
 A great program that started this year was Families and Schools Together. We saw eighteen weeks of
suppers, support and sharing happening. Thanks for Mrs. Christen, Mrs. Ferster, Ms. Richardson and Ms.
Luft for your commitment to this program.
 A big thank you goes out to the people at Central Alberta Medical Imaging for the breakfast program.
Students are anxiously waiting at the door for breakfast and the warm smiles that greet them. You have
been amazing!
 Thank you to the CALM students from Lindsey Thurber High School. By coming to the school, you have
shown our students the caring students that go to Thurber and I know that our kids know that high school is
a cool place.
 Thank you to the Boys’ and Girls’ Club for the five day program this year. This has been a bonus for the
families in the neighbourhood.
 Thank you to Alberta Health Services for the dental health, vision care and inoculations for our children.
 To the Red Deer College, thank you for sharing your students with us. This year we have had Education
students, Early Childhood students, Educational Assistants students, Nursing students and Kinesiology
students join us. By encouraging these folks to come into our school, our students know that learning
doesn’t stop after high school.
 Thank you to the people that help keep our school running smoothly. Mrs. Larratt and Mrs. Dahl in the
front office, Mrs. Armstrong our caretaker, all our Educational Assistants and teachers for putting their
heart and soul into making Fairview a great place for your children. Thanks as well to CARE for all the
help they have provided for the families and students here. Thank you to our central office staff and the
maintenance crew who make sure everything is great.
 Finally, I would like to thank the students. Because of you, every visitor to our school says the same thing:
FAIRVIEW SCHOOL IS A SPECIAL PLACE
Sincerely,
Bill Kwasny

Fairview School Council: Lunchroom Fees
As I am sure people are aware, the school’s lunch program is operated through the Fairview School
Council. The School Board gives the responsibility of operating the lunch program through policy that
says:
Schools may enter into an agreement with the school council to provide lunch
supervision programs. School councils may charge a fee for this service to cover
costs.
The Fairview School Council operates the lunch program on a not for profit basis with fees related to
the cost of providing supervisors. The cost for a family is basically a dollar a day.
Our School Lunchroom Program is currently in a huge financial crisis. Unpaid fees of over
$4000.00 are making it impossible to continue to offer this service to families. The school is
unable to provide funds through our budget to finance the lunch program. If this situation is not
corrected, the school lunchroom program may not be offered next year so alternative lunch
arrangements may have to be made by each family.
We are considering our options for the lunch program next year. We are deciding between:
 providing lunch supervision for bus students only so students not bussed would have to
find alternative care for lunch, having larger groups so fewer supervisors are needed
and/or
 making it necessary to volunteer to supervise lunches if your child is staying for lunch.
This is a very difficult decision because depending on the decision made, lunch may become a
hardship for families. While this is not our goal, it is a definite possibility.
If you have any suggestions to remedy this situation,
please contact me at the school (403-343-8780).
Mrs. Hart and the Early Literacy families would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the
Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools who made our Active Early Literacy program
come alive this year with a generous donation to Fairview Elementary School. With the
funding we were able to provide a variety of objects such as: special seats, pencil toppers,
classical music, a listening center and tactile manipulatives to assist the children with their
learning needs. We truly appreciated the support to help our classroom become a successful
learning environment!

Central Alberta and our community. Any parent/guardian requiring assistance to provide school supplies
for their children may apply at the office at 4808-51 Avenue between the hours of 8:30 a.m.–12:00 and

TALENT AND AWARD ASSEMBLY
Don’t miss the annual Talent and Award Assembly which will be held the morning of Thursday, June 23
starting at 9:00 a.m. All parents are encouraged to attend this special assembly.
Awards: A student from each class will be presented with special book awards, and one grade five
student will be presented with an award from the Alberta Teachers’ Association for their exceptional
performance throughout the year. Parents of children receiving an award will be notified by the teacher.
Talent: An exciting part of the morning is the student talent presentations. All students are encouraged
to show off a talent or skill that they have. The possibilities are endless: singing, dancing, creative
movement, gymnastics, martial arts, playing a musical instrument, etc. Parents are welcome to accompany
or present with their children. All presentations need to be auditioned by the student’s teacher to
ensure that they are prepared and ready to perform. We also ask that parents make sure that lyrics and
costuming are appropriate for this age group.
