hours)
Tuition: $130.00 Registration closes Mar.
14th
Materials Fee*: A materials fee of $20 will
be collected for solder and alloy only.
Additional cost will be for any gold
purchased from the instructor for the class.
(Cost will be based on market price plus
shipping and milling fees). Students should
expect the instructor to have enough gold
to make a simple 2mm band or a dimes size
worth of sheet.
This class gives the student an understanding of how to work with
gold. Students will explore how to test, re-purpose and recycle old
gold from rings and other sources. They will also learn how to alloy
their own gold as well as raise and lower the karat (purity) of gold.
Students will be introduced to gold Soldering, and polishing. The
material that we work with can be used to accent silver pieces or
make a simple ring or pair of earrings. This class is open to all levels.
If you can work with silver, you can work with gold. The instructor
will have some 14k yellow gold on hand to purchase. He will also
have some 24k (pure) to alloy and make some sheet from. Students
are encouraged to bring in 'old gold' especially rings to recycle. If
they want to purchase some gold to work with from a supplier,
round wire (20-11 gauge) or flat sheet (18-24 gauge) would be fine.
Students accenting silver should use 18k yellow (richer and good
contrast). If they wish to work in gold alone, 14k yellow would be
fine to use.
Demos will be done on the first day, work time will be on the second
day. Students who do not wish to participate on Sunday may choose
to take only the demo day, however no discount is offered.
