Job Description Title Department Reports to Hours Grade Volunteering Development Coordinator – Global Citizenship VSU Volunteering Manager 36.5 hours per week 7 Purpose of the job The purpose of the job is to coordinate the volunteering element of UCL’s Global Citizenship Programme. We will be offering a two week post-exam programme of volunteering from May 2014, bringing teams of UCL students together to undertake collaborative projects that connect them with communities across London. During the academic year, the post-holder will liaise with partners within UCL and in the voluntary and community sector to develop the programme, and devise learning materials and a support structure for students. The role will also involve support for some student-led community projects. Students choosing the volunteering element will learn more about the voluntary and community sector, its role in society, and become aware of some of the current issues facing the sector. Their learning will be put in the context of the wider Global Citizenship Programme. In addition, they’ll develop new skills through doing practical tasks as part of a project team. All references to the Global Citizenship Programme below are to the VSU’s strand unless stated otherwise. Principal responsibilities and duties People To coordinate student participation in the VSU’s strand of the Global Citizenship Programme, including enrolment, project allocation, training, on-programme support and evaluation. To work with the rest of the VSU team to facilitate their involvement in the Global Citizenship Programme. To support student project leaders to develop activities for the Global Citizenship Programme. To encourage community organisations to take part in the Global Citizenship Programme, and support them in the development of volunteering projects. To liaise with other departments involved in the broader UCL Global Citizenship Programme, including those in the Office of the Vice-Provost (Education), UCL Careers Service, and UCL Advances. To liaise with, support and co-operate with other staff within UCLU, academic departments, clubs and societies and elected officers of UCLU as required. To direct student staff in the completion of tasks. To attend and contribute to team meetings, section meetings, planning meetings and the UCL Volunteering Services Unit Steering Group. To respond to enquiries from students, UCL and UCLU colleagues, community partners, and others in a friendly, effective and efficient manner. Finance & Resources To keep good quality records. To monitor expenditure for allocated projects, and to ensure that management procedures for equipment are followed. To contribute to the development of VSU policies and procedures, and to VSU planning processes. To carry out monitoring and/or evaluation for allocated projects, as directed by the Volunteering Manager. Communication To communicate regularly with student project leaders, students enrolled upon the Global Citizenship Programme, and voluntary and community sector organisations. To send out communications to other stakeholders (such as staff in partner organisations) as required. As requested by the Volunteering Manager, to write content for VSU communications and publications, in particular materials required for the Global Citizenship Programme. To participate in VSU promotional activities, such as talks to departments and attendance at Volunteering Fairs. To deliver training workshops and presentations to students on the Global Citizenship Programme. To publicise the Global Citizenship Programme both within UCL and to external communities. Specific duties To develop and coordinate a two-week programme of volunteering activities for UCL students at the end of the academic year. To develop training to help prepare students for their volunteering projects and for progression beyond the programme. This will include both training workshops and elearning materials. To ensure that projects comply with appropriate procedures including risk assessments and safeguarding procedures. To contribute to the delivery of personal development activities for students, such as training sessions or accreditation schemes. To undertake desk-based research into specific topics, in order to inform the Global Citizenship Programme. General duties To be a positive representative of UCLU.
