Sample Chapter Committee Descriptions Communications and Marketing Committee Contact: Help connect AFP members and other audiences to our programs, resources and events through print materials, ecommunications and social media. Your skills in writing, editing, content development, planning, project management (and even Facebook!) can help us build awareness, participation and membership for chapter and international initiatives. This committee works in tandem with both the Education and Membership Committees, and supports the work of AFP International’s Public Affairs Department. Education Committee Contact: Plan and execute monthly chapter programs as well as special sessions throughout the year. The education committee works with the Communications Committee to publicize programs and evaluate member satisfaction with program offerings. Finance Committee Contact: Review all financial records and make recommendations to the board on issues of finance. This group oversees the work of AFP’s administrative services provider. Membership Committee Contact: Prepare and execute a membership recruitment and retention plan. The committee provides orientation for new members, administrates chapter scholarships and works to promote membership diversity. This committee works closely with the Education and Communication Committees. The Youth in Philanthropy Committee is a subcommittee, providing leadership and direction for the involvement of youth in philanthropy. This group’s focus is to plan and promote opportunities for youth to learn about and become involved in philanthropic endeavors. The committee works with the Philanthropy Day Committee to secure nominations in the youth category for the Philanthropy Day awards. Philanthropy Day Committee Contact: Plan and execute the annual celebration of Philanthropy Day in the chapter including all aspects from the awards luncheon to the program offerings. Resource Development Committee Contact: Resource development committee members are responsible for helping to cultivate, solicit and steward individuals, corporations and nonprofits interested in supporting the ongoing work and strategic goals of the chapter. Diversity & Inclusion Committee Contact: To implement and monitor the chapter’s diversity and inclusion goals and objectives. To insure that diversity and inclusion is incorporated into all aspects of the chapter’s operations. Youth in Philanthropy Committee Contact: Works to meet annual goals of the AFP Youth in Philanthropy program, which develops youth empowerment and leadership, facilitates youth-driven philanthropy, promotes youth awareness of the “common good” and social responsibility, expands youth horizons about careers in the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors, and increases youth knowledge about the nonprofit sector and local community needs. Chairs and committee members serve as mentors and models for the AFP Youth in Philanthropy Program by displaying a high level of professionalism in all personal and professional situations. Through their efforts, the chapter increases visibility for philanthropy and the fundraising profession and helps to develop future donors, volunteers and fundraisers. Government Relations Committee Contact: The chapter Government Relations Chair is responsible for keeping chapter members informed of important public policy issues related to philanthropy and fundraising. The Chair acts as a liaison between his/her chapter, other AFP chapters, and the Government Relations Committee. Each Government Relations Chair automatically receives AFP’s monthly Public Policy Update, which informs members of new legislative and regulatory developments affecting fundraising and philanthropy.
