- Castle Dene Shopping Centre

8th JULY 2015
For the fourth year running Castle Dene Shopping Centre in Peterlee is hosting its
Next Big Thing talent competition for under 18s.
If you’re sensational at singing, masterly at magic or terrific at the tango, Castle
Dene wants to hear from you! Simply complete a form on the shopping centre’s
Facebook page, including a link to your YouTube or Instagram video, before
Monday 20th July in order to be considered. People can then vote for their favourite
performance from Monday 20th to Monday 27th July.
The 20 videos with the most votes will be invited to the live heats that will take place
at the centre on Saturday 1st August. From these heats our judges will select 8 acts
to go through to the live final show on Saturday 8th August. The judges for the show
will be Barry Parnell, Danielle Moore and Barry Hyde.
Barry Parnell
Barry has been Centre Manager of Castle Dene Shopping Centre since 2011. As
well as managing the centre, Barry has a keen interest in the local community and is
always eager to add extra value to the overall shopping experience. Barry says: “It
has always been the aim for Castle Dene to provide everything in one location
for shoppers. We have a good mix of tenants and we constantly strive to build
on this retail offer. We host exciting events, shows and activities at the centre
whenever possible, particularly during school holidays. Our fourth ‘Next Big
Thing’ is set to be extremely popular and we can’t wait to see more of the
talent that the region has to offer!”
Danielle Moore
Danielle Moore is a born and bred Mackem and currently co-hosts the SUN FM
Breakfast Show alongside Simon Grundy. Due to her job, Danielle is constantly
exposed to up and coming singers, bands and new music. She also has a penchant
for Dolly Parton!
Barry Hyde
Barry Hyde is the frontman vocalist and guitarist for the Sunderland band The
Futureheads. The Futureheads swiftly became one of the most successful bands
from Sunderland after forming more than 10 years ago. Born and bred in
Sunderland, Barry is a massive fan of the area and can’t wait to judge Castle Dene’s
Next Big Thing this year! He has played many festivals in the UK and has been on
various panels judging talent shows up and down the country.
The winner of Castle Dene’s Next Big Thing will win £300 to spend at the centre, the
runner up will get £200 and third place will bag £100.
