Romeo & Juliet Debate: We will be holding a class debate on multiple topics dealing with Romeo & Juliet. You will be split into groups and given a column of the below topics to examine and their respective sides. You will need to come to class prepared to defend your position as a group. For each topic a new spokesperson must be determined to allow as much participation as possible. During the rebuttal phase you will need a spokesperson that is not already reflected for your topic; however you will all work together for the rebuttal. We will review the use of Google Docs in order for you to collaborate outside of class on your debate topics and assign members to compile information. Each member must equally contribute to the topic. 1) Romeo & Juliet are in love Group 1: 1) Romeo & Juliet are not in love Group 2: 2) The Friar is at fault for the death of R & J Group 1: 2) The nurse is at fault for the death of R & J Group 2: 3) Lord Capulate is at fault for the death of R & J Group 3: 3) Lord Montague is responsible for the death of R & J Group 4: 4) Romeo is responsible for the death of Mercutio Group 1: 4) Mercutio is responsible for his own death Group 2: 5) Fate & Astrology are blamed for the events of the play Group 3: 5) Mental instability is blamed for the events of the play Group 4: Rules for Debate: 1) Each topic will be given 5 minutes of debate time for each side. 2) Both groups will then be given 3 minutes to gather information for a 2 minute rebuttal. 3) A winner will be decided by the judge (Mrs. Fuggiti) for fun. This has no impact on your grade. Your grade is determined by the rubric. 4) All arguments must remain civil. Each side will be given turns to speak and should be respectful of these times.
