ADVENT 2015 Message
Adele Finney
Advent is a surprising clarion call to justice, fecundity and compassion without fear, in the midst
of transformative, sometimes cataclysmic change. What a resonant call at the end of a year full
of global commitments to sustainable development and addressing climate change. What
powerful messages as each of us locally respond through debate and action to welcome
refugees in our homes, churches and communities.
Do not fear.
Raise your heads and stand with confidence.
Increase and abound in love for one another and for all...that your love may overflow.
These are messages in Advent 2015 readings we need to hear. When Mary heard, her heart and
voice overflowed in a powerful proclamation of hope-filled justice and abundance.
He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
and lifted up the lowly;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty.
Luke 1.52-53
Beware of fear and advancing the notion of scarcity. Be aware and speak of hope and
abundance at the heart of every personal, social and political encounter. Know that PWRDF’s
work towards a truly just, healthy and peaceful world beats close to the heart of Advent.

A letter from Archbishop Fred Hiltz, President of the PWRDF Board of Directors and Primate of
the Anglican Church of Canada:
It is with sadness and hope that I am announcing today that PWRDF’s Executive Director, Adele
Finney, will be retiring as of May 31, 2016. Sadness because we will be losing the wisdom, talent
and knowledge that Adele has brought to her position in her six years as Executive
Director. Hope because of the future her leadership has brought us to.

Workers for PWRDF Partner in the Philippines Risk Death
By Tali Folkins
Abie Anongos, secretary general of the Cordillera
People’s Alliance, says the biggest challenge to her group’s work is “the intense militarization in
our communities.” Photo: Tali Folkins
Development and advocacy work everywhere comes with unique stresses. In the Philippines, it
can mean risking your life. Abie Anongos, secretary general of the Cordillera People’s Alliance
(CPA), knows this first-hand. In 2006, besides having her house ransacked, she had a knife
pressed to her throat.Going home after work one evening, Anongos says, she was grabbed by a
knife-wielding ….read more: http://www.anglicanjournal.com/articles/workers-for-pwrdfpartner-in-the-philippines-riskdeath?utm_source=Anglican+Journal&utm_campaign=cdc7ed2242Anglican_Journal_Daily06_03&utm_medium=email&utm
ACT Alliance is a coalition of more than 140 churches and faith-based organisations working
together in 140 countries. PWRDF is a member of the ACT Alliance.
Dear ACT Alliance members,
ACT Alliance has for many years worked intensely on climate change, both at the political and
campaign level. Within a few weeks we will face one of the most important political climate
summits - the UN COP21 in December in Paris - the result of which will have significant influence
on the livelihood of the most vulnerable people on this planet.
As you know, ACT has been actively mobilising its membership in the ACT Now for Climate
Justice campaign, calling for a fair and ambitious climate agreement at the Paris COP. Members
in more than 40 countries have actively taken part in the campaign, which involves mobilising
communities towards climate action and gathering signatures for the ACT Alliance petition.
With kind regards,
John Nduna
General Secretary, ACT Alliance

Singing to End Hunger
WHAT IS “SPRING INTO SONG”?
“Spring Into Song” is an initiative of Canadian Foodgrains Bank and Musiklus with generous
support by the Government of Canada. It is a highly accessible work comprised of music,
narration, and projected images all linked by a common thematic thread of justice and the goal
of ending hunger. The music requires minimal rehearsal commitments with maximum

Join Thousands across Canada, and around the world, in the Global Climate March on
November 29, 2015
We are less than one month away from the Global Climate March. On November 29, the eve of
the UN climate summit in Paris, we plan on sending a clear message to our newly elected
government that climate action is a top priority for Canadians. The science is clear: we can solve
climate change in our lifetimes, by “decarbonizing” our economies, quickly. The economics is
also clear that transitioning to 100% clean and renewable energy….read more:
