With a certified training program on shoe manufacturing, the program is aimed at upgrading the Indian footwear industry by introducing value added sustainable practices. This initiative will have long term benefits for leading shoe manufacturers and end consumers. This program is specifically designed with interactive learning sessions providing both theoretical and practical training sessions in the FDDI campus. The 3 day comprehensive program will enable the participants to improve the manufacturing process ensuring higher efficiency. The participants will be able to apply the latest sustainable Green Technologies which will provide a huge bouquet of technical advantages to leading customers resulting in better quality of end products. The shoe adhesive market has a lot of potential in India and is making rapid growth. The Indian shoe industry including both the organized and the unorganized sector is the world’s second largest after China with an estimated 2.2 billion pairs of shoes manufactured every year. India has a high demand for Dress shoes in comparison to athletic /sports shoes. The big belts of shoe manufacturing in India is Agra, Kanpur, Chennai & Delhi NCR. This belt takes care of the large domestic footwear demand ranging from formal shoes, casual sports shoes, sandals to slippers. India is also fast becoming a leading export house for branded footwear primarily due to the availability of good leather in the region and low cost skilled labour. There are 80 different components that go into the making of a shoe especially a sports shoe. With very little automation in the industry, the focus is on highly skilled labour for the application process which forms the key differentiating factor in the sector. As the global industry leaders in application technology, this partnership with FDDI is a testament of the long term commitment that Henkel brings to the Indian market. Commenting on this first unique initiative in the country, Jeremy Hunter, President Henkel Group, India said, “Henkel has always been in the forefront of innovation and manufacturing environmentally safe adhesive solutions. As market leaders across the world, Henkel’s Water based technology not only helps the environment but also helps in optimizing costs.” “The shoe industry in India is presently witnessing major shift in trends and this program will help the Shoe Professionals contribute towards the future growth of the industry. The manufacturing practice needs to develop more to match global standards and this partnership confirms our goal of bringing the best technological expertise from Henkel to Indian professionals.” adds Raajeev J. Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director of FDDI. FDDI conducts wide range of professional programs in the area of Footwear Design, Technology, management, Retail, Management, Fashion Merchandising, Visual merchandising, marketing, Creative Designing & CAD/CAM, leather goods, Accessories Design etc. Thus enabling professionals, managers, fashion designers, technologists to keep pace with the growing demand of the industry. FDDI is among the first Institute in the world to get prestigious ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 certification. The institute’s strong alliance with leading international institutes/organisations such as LDT, NagoldGermany, ARS Sutoria-Italy, University of Pirmasens and PFi-Germany etc, ensures international level of training in the campus and extends the scope of Student/Faculty exchange program in order to equip them to meet the challenges of globalization.
