Peace and Patriotism in Twentieth Century Australia
This symposium – part of History Week 2014 – will investigate how Australians have understood the

detractors of armed interventions or conscription. The symposium will feature contributions from
historians who looked at men who went to war and those who resisted military service, prisoners of
war, women as citizens and as transnational protesters, and Indigenous Australians.

Identity Thief
Rated MA15+
Identity Thief is a 2013 American crime comedy film directed by Seth Gordon.
The film tells the story of a regular guy Sandy (played by Jason Bateman), who has his identity stolen
by a woman and is forced to go to extreme measures to clear his name. The deceptively harmless
looking woman (played by Melissa Mccarthy) is living it up under the mild-mannered businessman’s
name. Sandy discovers just how crazed you can get trying to settle the score.
After the movie
Allan Watt will explain how easy it is to steal someone’s identity with modern technology. Social
media platforms like Facebook fuel thieves with an unprecedented amount of information, many
users forget what they put up over time and anyone following their posts can rebuild their life and
take their identity. Other professional sites such as Linkedin are even more dangerous. Too much
information in the wrong hands can be costly to the naive.

Treatment of Oppositional Disorders
This workshop will focus on strategies for maximising the therapeutic impact of parent training for
young children with conduct problems in multi-problem families. This is based on the model

1) theoretical tools for developing the most clinically informative conceptualisations of conduct
problems (integrating social-learning, cognitive, structural, and attachment accounts)
2) a process model of consultation for engaging and empowering families to create durable change
3) the process of implementing behavioural strategies that are sensitive to, and capitalise on, the
common structural and attachment dynamics within challenging families

Macquarie University Foundation
The Macquarie University Foundation leads and supports the University’s fundraising endeavours as
well as managing our leading alumni relations program.
As we mark our jubilee year, we look forward to celebrating this significant event with our valued
donors, alumni and friends.
We will share the Foundation’s news and events with you in the coming months, so if your contact
details have changed recently, contact us on (02) 9850 4278 or mqfoundation@mq.edu.au
Your contribution can make a difference
All donations to support the University’s teaching and academic excellence, research or clinical
services such as the Motor neurone Disease research centre and Macquarie University Cancer
Research Institute are tax deductible.
Planned gifts are also received with appreciation.

A bequest can help secure the future
The gift of a bequest to the University doesn’t require an immediate financial outlay. It can be taken
into consideration – along with gifts for family and other causes – when people make their estate
plans.
If you would like to have a confidential discussion about making a bequest to Macquarie University,
contact Anne Peedom on (02) 9850 1392 or anne.peedom@mq.edu.au
Transport
We encourage visitors to use sustainable transport options wherever possible. With a train station
on campus and buses running from many areas of the city, it has never been easier to use public
transport to visit the university.
If you wish to drive, parking is available at various locations on site. Parking fees apply and tickets
can be purchased from machines in car parks (accepts gold coins and credit cards only).
You can find more information about the various transport options available as well as campus maps
and car parking at mq.edu.au/transport
If you would like to be added to the mailing list for the events booklet, visit
