#800-Getting Acquainted in our Global Neighborhood
Did you know that in South Korea, four is considered an unlucky number? If you knew
that would you give someone who is Korean a four leaf clover for luck? Probably not.
Right now you may go to school with someone who is from Southeast Asia. Someday
you may travel to Brazil or Germany. And later when you come to MSU you will meet
many international students. All of these experiences help prepare you to live and work in
a cross-cultural world. From language to customs, there are many interesting differences
across cultures. Learning to communicate cross-culturally will make your world bigger
and you will be a more interesting person! We’ll explore different ways of interacting in
the word and interacting with each other. Let’s get started now.
#951-Power to the people! Tour the T.B. Simon Power Plant

Assignments
No guarantees can be made to ensure enrollment in a particular class. If all twelve
classes identified by the participant are full, the participant will be assigned a different
class(es).
Tips on Selecting Classes
Each family tends to use a different method for selecting their twelve preferred choices –
whether it is the kids, grandparents or parents selecting the preferred classes. We
recommend families select a diverse set of preferred classes to get a broad view of MSU
and enhance your experience. This may also help to avoid the overwhelmingly popular
choices.
As an example: One year 430 of the 542 participants placed Lego Robotics among their
top ten choices. The instructor agreed to conduct the class during all four sessions:
however, there was only enough equipment for 30 people per class. So of the 430
requesting the class only 120 were able to receive it as a class choice.
www.grandparents.msu.edu
Monday, February 08, 2016
List of Classes
Grandparents University 2014
If a majority of a family’s 12 choices are as popular as Lego Robotics, then it is possible
they may not be assigned any of their choices. Please note that many of the families who
have had this experience end up really enjoying the sessions assigned and have gotten
more from unknown topics than they ever considered possible. Some of these families
have become the biggest supporters of Grandparents University.
Due to scheduling issues, class assignments cannot be made until late spring and often
classes are limited based on equipment, instructor schedules, lab availability and other
restrictions.
