Do Now Activity:
What do you think of when you hear the word furious. Draw a picture.
Anticipatory Set (How to hook the students)
Chosen students will share what they drew when they hear the word furious.
Ask students what synonyms they can think of for the word furious (mad, angry, upset)
Procedure (modeling, guided practice, group/independent practice)
Modeling
 Have students come up with their own definition of furious
o Extremely angry
o Full of anger
 Model a sentence for them on the board
o I was furious when I saw the boys were bullying other students on the playground
Guided Practice
 The class will brainstorm things that make them furious together
 They will also brainstorm the steps they take when they feel angry
o Take deep breaths
o Talk to someone
Group Practice
 Students will create three more sentences in their groups using the word furious
 The groups will share out what their sentences are
Independent Practice/Homework
 Students will use their group generated sentences in order to create new sentences on what they can do when they feel
furious
o I feel furious when I see the boys bullying students on the playground, so I walk away and tell an adult.
Assessment:
Formative assessment – Group work , homework, discussion
Summative assessment – Weekly vocabulary quiz
