Project Fact Sheet Template 1. Project Name: Rehabilitation of the Agro-Industrial Park – Wholesale Market Road in Jericho 2. What is the project about? PROJECT AIM (OVERALL OBJECTIVE) To provide reliable & suitable access for the movement of people, goods, and services between the Palestinian town of Jericho (new vegetable market) and the future project site of the Jericho Agro-Industrial Zone PROJECT DESCRIPTION The overall scope of the project is to utilize labor intensive means as much as possible in the asphalting of approximately 1.8 kilometers of roadway between the newly built Jericho Vegetable Market and the proposed Jericho Agro-Industrial Zone. While the majority of the project activities due to the nature of the works will require heavy machinery, UNDP where possible, will employ labor intensive means in implementing certain activities. Supposing the entire value of the works is forthcoming from the donor, the following activities would be implemented to meet the above result: Excavation and road preparation works. Asphalting of road includes one meter shoulder each side, two meter sidewalks each side, six meters road asphalting each side, and a two meter median strip. In total the road will be 20 meters wide. Construction of a storm water canals and culverts as required. Construction of Sidewalks. (depending on final Scope of Works) Construction and Installation of Curbstones. (depending on final Scope of Works) Road furnishings including painting, signs, cat eyes, guard rails, etc. (depending on final Scope of Works) OBJECTIVES The objectives of the project are: 1. To asphalt approximately 1.8 Kilometers of road way with a width of 20 meters. 2. To provide immediate job opportunities to the unemployed living in the Jordan Valley region. 3. To enhance accessibility and provide alternative access to the AgroIndustrial Park. 3. What have we accomplished so far?(4-5 bullets or 1 short paragraph) Project Results: The road works officially commenced on the 7th of September 2009. Excavation equipment, including heavy machinery, were transported to the site. All infrastructure works, including the asphalting of 14 meters of road way (10 centimeters thick), the installation of a two meter median strip, and the laying of 4 meters of base coarse on the shoulders ( 2 meters each side), between stations 0.00 to 1.720 have been completed. Testing from the sub-base level through the asphalt level has occurred and all results were successful. It should also be mentioned that all road furniture and road markings have been installed or implemented. In addition to the above, reinforced concrete pipe culverts were supplied and installed. In addition, installation of curb-stones, the casting of concrete, painting of road markings, and installation of street light foundations for the median island were completed. The contractor finalized the installation of cat eyes, supplying and fixing road signs, installing reinforced concrete lining for the ditches, furnishing and placing of grouted riprap protection of the embankments, and tested the asphalt. In total, 3,660 workdays were generated throughout the project duration. On average, approximately 12 workers were on the project site per day during the initial works and an additional 17 were on site during the implementation of the second phase of works, of which 75% of the workers were classified as unskilled. 90% of the construction materials utilized for the project are considered local, thus assisting in stimulating the local Palestinian economy. 4.
