Unit Context: Students will increase their understanding of Canadian history at the turn of the 20th century (1890-1914) by examining how social, political, economic, and legal changes in Canada affected groups of people in a diverse and regionally distinct nation. Students will be able to make connections to present day, investigate and understand varying perspectives of different groups and describe significant events, developments, and people in Canada.

Unit Summary: The culminating activity in this unit will have students draw on knowledge over the past

13 lessons in which they will select an event of their choice which occurred between 1890-1914 and create a timeline from the point of development until present day. Students may present their findings in any of the following formats: oral presentation, written essay, filmed video presentation or a creatively drawn timeline map

Culminating Task Assessment: The student’s grade will be determined through assessment of a number of demonstrations:

-Assessment of Final Product

-Assessment of Decision Making

-Assessment of Independent Research Proposal

-Integration of class concepts and material
