7th Grade Science Mr. Emery 2012-2013 Classroom Line: (425) 431-4335 Email: emerya@edmonds.wednet.edu Welcome to the new Meadowdale Middle School! We will have an exciting year in our new classroom and I know that we will be successful year together. Essential Learning Areas: Semester 1: Scientific Method, Weather and Water, Microscopes, Cells Semester 2: Genetics and Evolution, Human Body Systems Classroom Expectations: In order for all students to have a successful learning opportunity, all students here at Meadowdale Middle School are expected to adhere to the 6P’s: *Prompt *Prepared *Polite *Productive *Positive *Proud For laboratory safety, no food or gum is allowed in the classrooms at any time. Students are responsible for lab set up, safe use of equipment, and clean up. Grades: Student grades can be viewed on Skyward Family Access. Student grades are based on Lab Reports, Assessments, and Projects. Missing assignments, quizzes, and tests are credited with a 50% score until the assignment is completed. If the assignment is not turned in, the assignment is still given a 50% score. This 50% rule is still an F, but it does not unfairly punish a missing assignment Revised Work: If a student is not satisfied with a grade on a lab report, test, or project, they have the opportunity to revise their work for full credit except for end of semester assessments. Students need to fill out a form that helps them plan how to improve their score and this form needs to be signed by parents. Students may retake an assessment BEFORE the next quiz is given. This usually is about a two-week window for retakes. Absences: If a student is absent from class, it is the student’s responsibility to make up the missed work! Students are expected to check with the teacher upon their return for what was missed in class. Students may be given an extension to complete the missed work equal to the number of days absent. Textbooks: Textbooks are used as a resource to enhance student understanding of concepts. As we only have a classroom set of textbooks, students are not assigned a textbook. However, students may check out a textbook to take home for a couple of days if they need to finish work or study concepts covered in class. Communication: Please feel free to contact me at anytime to discuss any questions or concerns you may have. Students and parents can also access classroom information, grades and textbooks online.
